Not in Calexico though, but in SoHo, New York City.
So next time you're in NYC, stop by the corner of Prince and Wooster streets in SoHo and let us know if they compare to tacos from Mex. Also ask them: WTF are you stealing my hometown's name?

| I wonder if these cats are OG's from Calexico. If not, do they even know where we are? |

I doubt it, unless they're "gueros" from here. Check out the photo.
I can almost bet the name was picked from either the band Calexico or in the same method that the city picked their name. Whatever the history behind their name, they're setup as an LLC. |

| The reputation of Calexico is at stake. Hopefully the tacos are decent- Lots of Mexicans work and live in NY. |

Naw, we're not from Calexico. But our family has been in Brawley for generations (the Taylors and Butters), and we grew up eating Imperial Valley style carne asada, which is the best in the world as far as we're concerned. We chose the name because it's a mix of California and Mexico, which is what our food is all about. It's tasty, too. People in NY are going nuts for it. As for the band - they're from Tuscon. If anybody stole your name, it's them!
Peace,

Well that's cool. You have a link to the valley in some way, so we won't go out to NYC and reclaim the name. :P

True, the best carne asada is probably from here, but the best tacos are from Mexicali, Mexico. No comparison.

Well, that was the same reason how the City of Calexico got their name.

Maybe someday when I'm in NYC, I'll have a taste and come back here on Calecia.com to post a review. Hope your business goes great.
We already took care of the band situation.
Good luck and thanks for coming on here to give us the 411. |

| We always knew that people in Brole and the rest of the valley community envied Calexico-the name along with the unique border culture. Yep, Calecia is No. 1 among valley cities. |

BTW, what type of tacos do you make? In other words, what's on your menu? |

Calexico Carne Asada in NYC was nominated for a Vendy, but ultimately lost to a Pakistani street vendor.
"The Vendley brothers (Jesse, Brian and David) who have only been in the food vendor business for six months, for their "Calexico," authentic Mexican fare sold in the SoHo district in lower Manhattan."
Just more recognition for the Calexico name. |
