When was the last time you rode in a Calexico taxi?
If you ask me, I don't remember. I was probably "out of it" if it was a few years ago, but my best guess is more than decade ago.
10 years ago, I remember having to pay $3.00 for a taxi. So for it to have changed to $3.50 some time inbetween is not bad. It beats walking in the hot sun when you have to have to cross the tracks or even for safety reasons to prevent the random cholo attack during wee hours.
Although now taxis have requested the City of Calexico to permit them to raise the taxi passenger fee to $4.00 and city has approved. Four bucks! That's outrageous! J/K.
Apparently the local taxi companies were asking about the increase because of the cost of gas. Hey, gas prices are coming down! It's right below 3 bucks now. A bargain.
Anyway, I'm personally cool with the price hike as long as the taxi drivers operate with the aircon on while they have passengers.
And here's an eco-tip for the Calexico taxi biz: Invest in eco-friendly vehicles. At least those which have better MPG. Get a clue from the Mexicali taxi industry. There's no need to drive around in a Crown Victorias any longer.

4 bucks is better than 1,200 for a DUI
and remember, make sure that you have your belongings after you get off the cab |

Maybe the cholo who used to (or maybe still does) ride around in his lowrider bike with the sound system could pioneer this biz.
He's gotta know every street in Calexico. |
