|
|
I read on the IV Press that the City of Calexico has themselves a new city manager: Ralph Velez.
As many of you know, Marlene Best split to work for the City of Imperial. Good riddance.
Approximately two months later, Calexico has themselves a full-time city manager once more. Ralph Velez is scheduled to start on the 25th of September.
In the meantime, interim city manager Kevin Northcraft will be helping out as a part-time city manager until Ralph Velez is at full speed. The interim position is expected to last another two months after the official hire date with an hourly pay of $57 to Mr. Northcraft. Mr. Velez will be making $125,000 per year. That's dollars, not pesos.
Let's pray Calexico's choice for city manager is the right one and this individual ends up doing a great job and sticks around for a while.
BTW, any background on Ralph Velez? I found a few references online to a Ralph Velez of Tolleson, AZ (ex-city manager), one from Superior, AZ (town manager) and one from Maricopa County in California. |

Not sure. During the last council meeting, he seemed to mainly be listening in and made a couple of "funny" comments.
What I'm curious about is how Marlene Best is doing up in Imperial. |

Ralph Velez is what Marlene never was. He is tough and has a lot of experience. This time heads will roll and he WILL FIRE PEOPLE.
Marlene was micromanaged by two concilmember who had their agendas and got tired and left. That why Imperial was an option. Nothing happends and its easy to leave early.
On a curious note, someone (don't know if it was Marlene or not) called Oscar Rodriguez to hire him and come back to Calexico. Oscar wanted a five year contract but he could not been hired anyways because he doesn't have enough votes in the council. |

Didn't you claim that Marlene Best was the best thing to happen to Calexico?
"...she is a blessing to the city of calexico."
