Been busy! sorry, The POA had entered into an agreement to utilize the Ewing study for pay purposes, the "NEW" guys from the S.O., and the rookies, got a huge pay increase, ($800. a month increase ballpark) the veteran officers got D#ck. like 26 cents an hour more.
The seniors were told that the pay raises would come in 3 phases, Phase 1 was the rookine raise, Phase 2 was supposed to be implemented on July 1, 2007 for the Veterans, and a last installment on July 2008.
So Far, No installment for the Seniors, the seniors are now behind 7 months in back pay owed to them by the City. The City has basically breached their contract with the POA by failing to honor their own agreed upon contract.
The city has hemmed and hawed about wording in the document, has gone so far as to say "We didn't say that", "thats not what we meant" yet upped the pay for Officers who just got here and have not compensated the Officers with over 4 years of training and service to the city.
Of course, the city will try to screw the Officers out of the back pay and reach some other type of agreement at a lower pay rate I'm sure. That is how they have negotiated before.
Officers with less than 1 year are making more than Officers with over 3 years, another typical Calexico financial mess. The last thing I want to hear about is how the City has no money.when the Tax coffers are overflowing, the City manageer gets a $22,900 dollar raise after a year in service?
Ridiculous, the most dangerous thing he has to do is avoid a 3 martini lunch and these Officers are chasing bad guys with guns and knives over fences and off rooftops in the middle of the night..
No I dont want to get off on a rant here, but, I am sick and tired of the shabby treatment this city has given the public safety servants here. We are treated like third class employees, and there is no recognition for outstanding service, this city demands that Officers do far more, with far less than any other department that I know of. The job here is quite different than the other city PD's near by. And this city just expects us to continue to struggle along with a horrible retirement package, No bilingual pay, third world dental and medical ? I know the grass is always greener, but we should at least have grass here..... |

Well, you can ask around, I am the guy who has arrested a police commisioner for theft, written two city council people for moving violations, and arrested a school official for DUI. SO yeah, justice is blind, and equally balanced.
I was on a rant there and not all things were to be taken literally. I am just venting some little known info into the mix so you can see some of the back office politics here.
Actually Mr. Velez has seemed to be on the up and up when dealing with us overall, but this situation is getting out of hand.
remember absolute power corrupts absolutley!

I don't know much about your CBA, but if you have backpay coming at the new rate then in the end you will get what you wanted right?
CBA agreements and negotiations are tough and no one likes them, but it is a process. At least they are willing to negotiate. |

Are we kindergarten kids who are playing at running a city??? Is the POA serious enough to sue the city for their back pay?? or did they do one of those "honorable" contracts where everything was verbal (gasp!)??? What is this world coming to where people are scared of suing the government... I thought it was common practice now at days...
POA should just turn around and sue the city and their mothers for all their worth... get the point out that they shouldn't mess with you or any other city employee... |

| You would think that city hall/council would like to keep their relationship with their cops on a friendly basis, but I guess that's not the fact here. It sucks that you guys haven't gotten your raises yet. |

Gryph, I'm impressed, dude. Very nice. I have to disagree, though. Your actions prove that Gryphon1 is just and balanced. Justice itself, on the other hand, is an illusion in this world. |

Ha! Is that right? Well ... um ... I've got nothing. My statement was actually quite corny. But I will say that, since I started participating in the discussions here at Calecia.com just a few months ago, I've found locoinclx to generally be one of the biggest douche bags around here. I say "generally" because I have to admit the guy makes good points sometimes, like the one quoted above. I think if I had to rank them it would look something like this:
1) jackintheboxster
2) locoinclx
3) RandR
Again, I'm fairly new here so let me apologize ahead of time if I left anyone out.[/quote] |
