Whoah shit... I was driving back towards Calexico on Justo Sierra when I saw the new Carl's Jr. This place looks real impressive. The architecture is very modern and it seems like they did a great job on it.

I also immediately noticed the long drive-thru line which was flowing into the street and it looked like inside was packed with people as well. Who knows if the quality of food is the same as this side of the border.

So this must be the new crema hang out too, since the Fridays was dead and I couldn't see much action at Applebee's.

Anyone eaten here yet?

I was in Mexicali the day after it opened and I went inside to order some food (the drive-thru wasn't operational yet.)

The food sucks. No way near the quality of a Carl's, Jr. here in the U.S. The food had more of a Rally's texture to it; you know, soggy.

As for the restaurant, it was packed like it was a new nightclub or something. They even had a guard at the front door.

I never thought I'd say this, but I felt out of place at a fast food joint. I was surrounded by dudes and chicks in black leather, hairdos and perfume.

The clients were your typical Mexicali cremitas. "Quiero un Famous Estar, con cheese." All I could hear while I stood in line was "I'm better than X" conversations. The guy behind me got a little too close to me, so I stepped on his shoe. He didn't say anything. It's the little things, you know?

I stood in line for about 15 minutes before I made it to the counter to order my food. I placed my order to go, so I had to stand to the side for about 10 minutes and wait for some prick to bring me my food.

The waiter came around a few times yelling, "orden para llevar", but he wouldn't call out the order number, so everyone had to walk up to him and he'd ask to see all our receipts first before he would even tell us if it was our order or not.

After he was done with the receipts, he just threw mine on the drink counter and didn't say a word to me. I asked him why the hell he didn't just call out the order number to save people some time, but he just ignored me and headed back to the kitchen area, so I tossed a few choice words his way. A while later, I finally got my food.

As I was walking out of the restaurant, I told the guard that I was going to come back later with a grenade.

It probably was.

One thing I forget to add: One couple was going down the entire menu, asking the waitress exactly what was in each burger.

I had to wait there while they explained to them what kind of bread was on the Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger, how many onion rings were on the Western Bacon Cheeseburber, etc. Jesus, man.

I guess I better start carrying an extra $20 bill in my wallet when I go down there from now on, just in case.
