So what exactly is the link between the City of Calexico and the Calexico 10 Theater.

Does the city own the land or even part of the biz?

...come on, who has heard of the "Metropolitan Theaters"??

Actually, I have. I used to go to a Metropolitan Theater in the Phoenix area when I lived there back in '95. They used to show movies that had been out awhile for $1.50 a show.

To be honest, I didn't hear of Ultrastar until the mall came to town.

I hadn't heard of either two until they came into the valley. All I knew was The Movies, Motor Vu Twin Drive-In Theatre, Fox and Crest.

I recently heard a "rumor" that the Drive-In in Imperial was going to close down. Any troof to that?

I don't understand how the Calexico 10 is supposedly closing down when there's talk of a new movie theater at the proposed Calexico Grand Plaza near the border?

Yes, mallrats may prefer to go to the theater at the IV Mall, but what about those that just want a quick drive to the local one to catch a flick?

Calexico 10 (Metropolitan based out of Santa Barbara, CA) does need to upgrade their equipment and seating, but to just give up on it is ridiculous. It's basically people going to the new thing and forgetting the old. When a new theater opens up in the valley, the majority will dump the mall.

I know I've mentioned it before, but the Fox Theatre in downtown Calexico would have been awesome as an indy/foreign film house. Too late now...

I would've loved to have seen an indy/foreign film house in Calexico. I wonder what the ambience would have been at a Calexico foreign film house. As for the Calexico theatres, maybe someone could step in and save them by keeping 4 or 5 screens for films or something and rent out the others (there are churches that rent out theatres, I'm sure they could provide a little money).

Indie film houses don’t generate any business… Heck even up here in LA, the indie houses are doing bad, then how do you think they will do in Calexico??

I say just do like a once a week thing at the Calexico 10 for indie and foreign films, and then you can get your fix.

The theaters do not need a lift me up… they need completely new management… Think about it… even though its smells like crap and everything looks like crap, remember when it was new?? Heck the place looked a lot nicer than what the Ultrastar theaters looked.

The reason why the theaters are in the works to be closed is because the owner said 7 years ago that he was only for it on the short term. That’s why he doesn’t care about the theaters. Another thing… when have you seen any theater chain anywhere, where the building is not connected to a strip mall or a regular mall. Its all economics, most people won’t ever be in the mood to just go see a quick flick. There going to want to go eat right after that or just window shop. That’s what most people do… Unless you’re a hard core movie buff, in which case, I have no idea what the hell you would do in CLX….
