Indie film houses don’t generate any business… Heck even up here in LA, the indie houses are doing bad, then how do you think they will do in Calexico??

I say just do like a once a week thing at the Calexico 10 for indie and foreign films, and then you can get your fix.

The theaters do not need a lift me up… they need completely new management… Think about it… even though its smells like crap and everything looks like crap, remember when it was new?? Heck the place looked a lot nicer than what the Ultrastar theaters looked.

The reason why the theaters are in the works to be closed is because the owner said 7 years ago that he was only for it on the short term. That’s why he doesn’t care about the theaters. Another thing… when have you seen any theater chain anywhere, where the building is not connected to a strip mall or a regular mall. Its all economics, most people won’t ever be in the mood to just go see a quick flick. There going to want to go eat right after that or just window shop. That’s what most people do… Unless you’re a hard core movie buff, in which case, I have no idea what the hell you would do in CLX….

Okay dude, you're from L.A., we get it. L.A. is more sophisticated than Imperial County. So why do you call yourself locoinclx? Shouldn't it be locoinla? Confused

All over the country- movie houses have the same problem-slipping attendance, lousy movies. Everyone has fancy home tv wide screens with DVDcable and other online features plus fancy Nintendo stuff. The reality is that Calx is competing with Mexicali- nice new cinemas- movies in Spanish. Hey..walk around Calexico and find out how many people are speaking Ingles. Look at the high school. Young people are your target audience and they love Mexicali. Mexicali doesn't need Calexico

I think the main reason for declining attendance at local theatres is that many movies are now released in Mexicali at practically the same time they're released here. There is no reason for people in Mexicali to come see movies here anymore.

HaHa... Another idiot response just to evade the topic... If you would have paid a little, just a little more attention to what I had written, you would have noticed that it is not about being sophisticated it’s about logistics.

This I will state one more time for you, and just for you. Theaters in LA, NYC, and even Calexico are all over the world are loosing money, why because there are such things (like Chuco boy pointed out) like Big Screen TV's and all that other good things that basically take over the need of seeing movies aside from going to the theaters. Therefore movie theaters are teaming up with, malls and other venues to have a mixed used entertainment venue to cover a wide spectrum of entertainment for the whole family. Reason being is that if you go to the mall and you so happen to pass by the theaters, you are more keen in saying “hey, let’s go see a movie! Why not, where already here and we got nothing to do at home...” than to say “nah movies are too expensive, ill just go home and watch reruns of “Betty la Fea”. Calexico 10 didn’t do that therefore it will go down the drain.

In regards to Indies(that’s independent movies that are not part of the Hollywood machine); I stated that if LA cannot retain the local theater houses that show Indies, then how can Calexico afford to show independent movies and make a profit. So there, I summed it up for you…. Don’t you feel special Smile

By the way the LocoInCLX screen name was made because I do feel a strong connection with Calexico. Heck if I didn’t then I wouldn’t have typed 422 posts on this website for the last two years??? I am probably more informed about what is happening in Calexico than most of your friends and family are… Therefore next time try to give a better response to my posts than just a simple, “how would you know? Your not from here” thing.

Well, I suppose this is one of the reasons why Calexico 10 isn't doing so well.

Yeah, Ive read that... The reason why Ultrastar can do "Nighmare" is because they have a digital production room. So Yep....

The only update until know is that the Calexico City Council took no action once again on the Movies situation.

Calexico's ideas is to subsidize the theater and help them get out of the whole which is wrong because the owner of the theather, Oliphant and Associates, is a multi-billion dollar company. So putting it on more simple way, The City of Calexico wants to give money to a dying theather that is owned by a multibillion dollar company to help the movies even when the Calexico 10 will die.

No question about it.

Why is the city doing that?

Because they are bunch of assholes.

Metropolitan teathers is one small company that will not survive pretty long.

It is a fact that now people use the internet to download movies and use more home entertainment. People in Calexico are willing to a few extra miles to go to El Centro to watch a movie because the quaility service done over.

Kaput!

The building owners of the Calexico 10 Theater are claiming that the theater has lost 65% of their patrons since the opening of the IV Mall movie theater. So now the "theater is no longer viable."

Remember the quote "I am not economically viable." from Falling Down? Well, that's the case with the Calexico 10.

The building owners asked the City of Calexico to sell them the land for $665K so they can tear down the movie theater and build a business plaza of some sort.

So with Calexico 10 employee morale most likely being at an all-time low, expect first-class service and even free admittance to the movies.

Bye-bye.

The city of calexico took no action yesturday on the property on Scaroni RD. The movies will shut down and the owners of the building want to buy the land so it can be made into a retail commericial site.
