Shopping is bad enough on its own, now finding out that you've purchased a faulty product and will now have to deal with some store's ridiculous return/exchange policy is enough to just eat the loss.
Some stores have terrible return/exchange policies, while other stores have great ones.

I recently purchased an toy at Toys"R"Us, only to arrive at home, open the box, and find that it was all scratched up. Already mad because this has already happened to me before at this store, I went back to the store to return it (maybe about half an hour later).
I walk up to the customer service desk, where there is no one else in live, and waited for about 10 minutes before somebody finally arrives (because of course the store only has about 3 employees in it). I tell the person my problem, and the person informs me that they cannot give me my cash back and will have to give me store credit. I agree and wait for about 5 minutes as the person inspects the toy, I guess to ensure that I haven't broken it myself. After about these 5 minutes, the person just walks away and tells another person to handle it for me, 5 minutes later, I get my store credit.
Total time = 20 minutes to return a toy that costs 20 dollars. I guess they have a dollar a minute wait time going.
Apparently, Toys"R"Us' policy is that on any electronic, they can't give you your money back, only store credit (and only if you're lucky) because the actual policy, according to the clerk, is to exchange it for the same product. |

Best: Costco.
Worst: The 99 cent store on Imperial Ave. (formerly Checker Auto).
I once bought a birthday bag for $1 which I wasn't too sure about the size. I quickly went to the car to see if the gift would fit and it didn't. So with less than 2 minutes of having bought the gift bag, I go back inside the 99 cent store and the clerk doesn't allow me return it. OK, so let me exchange it... the clerk claimed to have had no recollection that I had made a purchase less than 3 minutes ago.
After some convincing, I walked out with some... I forgot what crap I walked out with... probably stink bombs. |
