Personally, I used to be a huge Weezer fan. My two favorite albums in the world were the first Weezer album, and Pinkerton (second album). Then, when I heard the third album was gonna come out, I freaked, I was like, "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!"...
... Then, I heard the album. That album sucks! I found myself for months going, "It's good, I just need to get used to it." But no, that album is awful (by comparison to their other stuff). Then, I heard the fourth album was gonna come out, and I was thinking, this better not suck again, and you know what? It did. I've already heard some songs from the fifth album, and let me tell you, this band should have broken up after Pinkerton.
I have no idea what happened to this band. They were on the road to being legendary, but now, they're gonna have to live their lives known as the band who plays "Buddy Holly" and that's it.
What a disappointment. Sad thing is, there are so many other bands with the exact same story... |

I completely agree with you regarding Weezer. I admit, I wasn't a Weezer fan when the blue album came out, mainly because their two singles were Buddy Holly and The Sweater Song. Sure these songs are good, but everyone was into them and I'd even hear people trying to sing them. Just annoyed the hell out of me, so I never gave the album a chance.
But around the time Pinkerton came out, I listened to all of the blue album and found that it kicked ass. My favorite song on this one is track 8, Garage. Pinkerton also kicks ass and my favorite track has to be Pink Triangle.
Getting back to their decline... the last two albums are bad. There's a few songs that are good, but nothing great. Both are very dissappointing. Rivers Cuomo is trying to be too "emo," plus most annoying is that the guitar solos are exactly like the chorus. Nothing different here.
Isn't there some kind of music industry law or something that states if a band hasn't put out a new album in less than five years, they are "technically" broken up? Kind of like if you live with your SO for 7 years you're legally married? If so, this band should've never reunited. |

One other band that should've ended it soon was Rancid.
Former members of Operation Ivy, Tim "Lint" Armstrong and Matt (McCall) Freeman, put together Rancid with a different drummer and put out their self-titled release sometime in 1993. This album was totally punk rock. Every song was great from start to finish. Highly recommended.
About a year later, Rancid came out with Let's Go and it was pretty good. They added Lars Frederikson on guitar and backup vocals. OK, so this was fine.
Then came ...And Out Come The Wolves a few years later. Some songs were OK, but most were just filler. Lars was doing vocals on most of the songs and he was very annoying.
Then Life Won't Wait was released and this shit totally sucked. Lars was doing most of the singing and the only good song (which Tim sung) was Warsaw. Even though I could only understand him saying "baseball bat" it was kick ass, just like the first album. But overall, the enitre record blew.
Then came their new release (it was self-titled again). Rancid claimed to go back to the basics and put out a punk rock record. They were successful, 'cause this shit is fuckin' punk rock. Even Lars does some good vocals.
So Rancid, you should've stuck to the "basics", whatever that means, and all your records could've been as good as the first and the last. |

I haven't heard anything after Pinkerton, but I do know that Weezer had to have given the most boring live show I've ever been to. |

No, it was the Cure for the Bloodflowers tour. Even this goth girl ripped up her "I love Robert Smith" poster after that horrible show. |

I think that a band that would definitely fit in this thread would be Bad Religion. They started out as these 15 year old kids filled with angst and brought us some intelligient, very well performed hardcore punk rock. Even as the band started changing during the late 80's/early 90's, their music was still pretty good. The album "No Substance" was actually the beginning of their downfall. Now, if you listen to their newest album (don't know and don't care the name of it) it sounds like Greg Graffin broke away from the band and is now singing for Blink 182.
I know that a band has to change after playing for more than 20 years, as you can't play punk forever. This does not mean that you have to lose the integrity of your music. I guess some of the reason for this band sucking so much now was the many changes in their band members. |

Maybe Greg Gurewitz left the band again? |

| It's Brett Gurewitz, but yeah I think that had a lot to do with it. I guess he's too busy now being the CEO of Epitaph Records now being this mainstream record label, signing every single bubblegum "punk" band that comes along. I would say he's more concerned with making money now than keeping the integrity of Bad Religion. |
