Growing up in the Imperial Valley, I never really got a chance to go to any concerts because they were either too far or I just couldn't afford them. As a kid most concerts were in San Diego and wasn't even aware of what Mexicali had to offer. So I was excited when a band that I even knew (and sometimes liked) came down to play at the Mid-Winter Fair. Oh yeah...
The first concert I ever attented was at the Mid-Winter Fair and it was actually a pretty popular band at the time. The band was Y&T. If you're not familiar with the them, they were pretty much a heavy/glam metal rock group that had a robot as their mascot. At shows, the robot would make an appearance on stage.
So before the concert, I was excited. I wanted to see the Y&T robot come out on stage. Well, to my dissappointment he never came out. It really bummed me out.
Anyway, that was my first concert ever! |

I'm not really a concert going type. But if you give me a free ticket i'll probably go. As, was the case of my first concert every i was in AZ at the time visiting my cousins and they were all going to this concert. So we go and then the singer comes out and everybody is standing up and dancing and shit, and i was like hey is this what i'm supposed but i didn't do it because i thought everyone looked really stupid dancing around all sober and shit, i was 16 at the time. towards the end i actually started falling asleep.
by the way the concert was Janet "Ms. Jackson" (if your nasty) Jackson. |

The year that Y&T came to play at the Mid-Winter Fair is the only year I can think of that the fair had acts that actually had hits at the time they performed there. The other acts that year were Mr. Mister and Willie Nelson. I know because I was in 4-H and had a sheep in the fair and was there every day of the fair that year. |

| My first concert ever was Menudo. I was like 3 and my mom took my sister, who was 6 or 7 at the time, to see them. She got a bad feeling and she dragged my sister out kicking and screaming after a few songs. A few moments after we left, the much larger crowd outside the venue actually knocked down a fucking wall and went after any piece of Menudo they could get their hands on. The riot went on for hours and the police killed some people. That show imprinted me in a subliminal level, and now I only go to shows where I can catch a boot to the head. |
