Sports bar eh!
Wonder how long that's going to last....
is the video rental store a "Blockbuster"??? |
Unlikely. I've heard Blockbuster isn't doing to well nationally. The one in El Centro closed up overnight a few weeks ago, which sucks. Other stores don't carry shows on DVD the way Blockbuster did.
My brother and I had put a deposit on one of the spaces right off Cole (the one closest to Circle K), but they took too long to build and our first business took off rather suddenly. Our window of opportunity closed, but I think we'll have the time for a project like that by around 2011 ... so keep an eye out for that I guess. We were opening a cafe and deli, by the way.
Of the other projects going in, I can remember a raspado and candy shop. Who knows how many companies moved on the way I did though. |

If you mean the Gardens Mall that's been mentioned here, yeah. Well, I was going to, but they took so long to finish that I had to move on. Also, my family's AC business grew all of a sudden, so now I'm also too busy for a second business now. I can now make my own that six word story Hemingway is said to have written to win a bar bet: 'For sale: coffee equipment. Never used.' |

I'm not familiar with any such city program. The city has been favoring corporate stores over small businesses for several years, which frankly is better for the local economy. If there is such a program, it'd definitely be something to look into. |

I also believe that it was something like a loan subsidy or something.... |

Hmmm... I don't know if they city gives any types of breaks for small biz. Seems like incentives are given to "enterprise" businesses moving into the area. You may want to contact the chamber of commerce (357-1166) or the local SBA office (312-9800) to get an answer.
You could also try slipping a Benjamin to a city employee and see if that renders any advantageous business outcomes. |

Right, right. There is a pretty good enterprise zone program, but I forget the details. Thanks for the extra info, everyone. |
