Just out of curiosity, do you speak from experience?

Absolutely. I attended in 2001. Primarily, for the Jane's Addiction reunion.

The overall vibe of the festival rubbed me the wrong way, for way too many reasons for me to list. But, I must say, the overall tone of the festival can be summed up in one particular moment: Perry Farrell took time from Jane's Addiction's performance to speak in detail about the existing Inter-African slave trade, and his and his organization's (who's name I cannot recall) work to purchase (yes, purchase) and free as many slaves as possible. He brought a boy who had been rescued from slavery up onto the stage. The boy recounted some of the many things he endured while in slavery and spoke of how grateful he was to be free. Perry and the boy pleaded with the audience to join them in bringing awareness to these people's horrible plight.

Their pleads were met with such heartfelt responses as, "Who cares," and "Shut the fuck up and play." After the band's set, the audience just dumped their trash on the ground, ignored the donation boxes (they were asking for one dollar per person, if possible), and headed for the parking lot.

Right. I am aware that most people were only there for the music, but Jesus Christ, man....

Less talk, more rock.

I've never been to Coachella and will probably never attend it, but I can only imagine a bunch of Limp Bizkit heads running around being belligerent.

BTW, did you put in dollar?

You just got moved to the back of the rescue list.

You see all kinds of people there, so I'm not saying that was representative of all attendants, but, it's definately more Warped Tour than Woodstock.
