How many of you will be signing up for this? Have you tried the SENTRI lanes in SD?

CALEXICO — Government officials celebrated the opening of a SENTRI enrollment office here Thursday at the East Port of Entry that will let local residents apply for admission into a program that allows for expedited vehicle border crossings.

The Secure Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection program prescreens applicants, who, when approved for admission receive radio frequency identification cards and vehicle decals allowing those people to more quickly cross the border. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency operates five SENTRI lanes at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry.

[...]

SENTRI program applicants must first download and complete application forms available at www.cbp.gov , then call (619)690-7600 for an appointment for an interview. Fingerprints will be taken of the applicants, and they must pass a background check before being admitted into the program. The vehicle intended for enrollment in the program must pass an inspection, which includes a canine search. The application fee for the program is $129 and covers two years of enrollment.

So if I sign up for this SENTRI program, does this give me access to all of the SENTRI lanes in the country, or just the one I apply at?

Not sure. In glancing over the application it does not seem to ask for a specific port to be used. So I assume enrollment can be used for all SENTRI lanes in the country. Can anyone confirm or correct this?

Heres the app: http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/toolbox/forms/823s.ctt/823s.pdf

(I really just want everyone to enroll so that the regular lanes clear and I can cross fast without paying hehehe)

I went to Mex today and on the way back I noticed that there was a long line for the Sentri. It seemed to me that I crossed the border faster than those in the Sentri lane. Looks like the Sentri program is a rip off.

That blows. This is exactly why I've been hesitant to apply.

Anyone else been denied?

Trust me bro, you running 1 minute pass the parking meter will not deny you the Sentri.

If you have 'any' record they will deny you. If you get a DUI they will take it away.

Also, have a solid reason why you are applying. Like doing business, medical, family, and so forth. If people from Mexicali can get it, and you're 'clean' then there is a only a remote chance that they will decline you.

It's a nice gamble in my book.

I cross about once a week... the longest I have ever waited in the SENTRI lane, even in a long line, is well under 10 minutes. Ever had your car overheat in the regular line? Tried to cross on a holiday? Sheesh, SENTRI is a blessing.
