It's not fair to pick on school teachers. I admire them because many of them worked full time while attending college and make personal sacrifices to receive the degree and credential. Many of them have student loans that they have to repay and they do not have wealthy parents.

How many professions can you just walk into the job without the proper degrees and certification?

So let me get this straight, we as a society should endorse and praise teachers who are not yet qualified to teach in the classrooms. Pay them, and once they obtain their credentials give them raises.

At CHS 79% percent of the teachers are certified by the state to teach.
You can do the math. 15% are first year teachers. http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/ca/other/1079

You mean like how these three did?

GIVE THEM A RAISE, if the money was earmarked by the state of cali for the purpose of raises to the teachers then that's where that money should go. It may very well be illegal to use such money for another purpose than for what it was set aside for. Teachers have a hard job, both my wife and brother moved away from teaching due to the attitudes of kids now days. They both got scared out of their future jobs and now they happily work for the county and federal government. If a teacher is able to afford better things than we do, it may be due to a keen sence for investing or dual income households. Some of you would have a fit if you knew how much money other people without an AA degree make, $ 60-70,000+. Cool

there's plenty of people everywhere with little or no education after high school and making more than 20, 30K... I, with a BA, make only $100 a day minus taxes and no benefits, no paid vacation, holidays, etc... I am sure there's people in this discussion that make more than that whose only degree is H.S.

Pathetic.

If you're upset about your wages resort to a good old fashion strike. Don't dance around the fire. Weak.

Start a picket line and yell scabs. Get the news involved. Get the community involved.

Verbal's got no cred whatsoever.

I can tell right off the bet you probably got a strong B in your debate class, but in your research class, you got a straight out D.

I see nothing but rhetoric coming out of your keyboard. I think it's time you did your research as to why the teachers can't just come right out and strike. I've heard it's something they can't do right now. It must have something to do with the negotiating process.

It's really sad, that a certain number of "educators" have been taking this way to the point of no showing up. On Wednesday, I was substituting in El Centro by 7:45 in the morning I receive a call that the Calexico Unified School District has called for all substitutes that also work for the Calexico district to immediately go to Calexico because the kids were left by themselves waiting. So I had a choice.. what school? I picked on one, then left.

Despite this, there is a generalization around here, that every single one teacher is behind this. There is the common teacher who works more than 60 hours a week to get his/her classroom going prepared and ready and that is NOT in this.
