Somebody please break it down for me:

What do teachers (in Calexico) get paid to do?

What are their work hours, responsibilities, etc.?

Are they salaried employees (meaning they work until the job is complete)?

Are they compensated for additional work performed?

What is the starting pay?

What is the highest a teacher can learn (as a teacher)?

What are their benefits (healthcare, vacation, etc.)?

I've got many more questions, but this is a good start.

Thank you.

Many people cap on teachers because they have summers off, Monday
through Friday schedules, good benefits, well paid, and the list goes on and on. That's true, to a certain extend. Shit, If Ihave a degree I expect to get paid like a proffesional. I speak out simply because my
wife is one and know what she goes through day in day out. She's dedicated like many of her colleagues are. Yeah, you got some sorry people out there teaching that shouldn't be there in the first place. People that can't even speak English clearly! Kids got so much stupid shit to learn that's just meaningless! Do the teachers like this? No. Do they like how the state mandates all these sorry ass tests? NO! If you
are to blame our Education system, blame those godamn politicians who make all these fucked up regulations and let Teachers teach! We are so worried with meeting these pinchi numbers every year it's just redic :x ulous! Now, we also got to blame parents for this shit. The majority of kids don't respect there parents, what makes you think they are going to respect teachers? Pinchis chamacos don't like shcool, take home studies, join the military, or go work on the fields! I say we let our teachers do there thing. I believe it all starts in your home. Family values, manners, and most importantly respect! Agree or not, many Teachers are in it for the kids and not the money. :x

Wow, I wanna be a teacher. Razz

And how much exactly does a professionals get paid?

Bemisnorris brought up the point that just about every profession (in the Imperial Valley) is underpaid. You wanna talk underpaid, look to India.

Then we have those that many believe are overpaid. Mr. Norris mentioned Corrections and many IID employees. Crap, I was astonished to find that IID linemen start off at $36 USD and earn, not overtime, but doubletime. That's crazy pay!!!

I don't mean to offend any educators, but this is how I see it and is why we have so many teachers who are horrible at their job and should not be employed by the districts:

It takes a college awarded bachelors degree (and a state provided teaching credential) to teach in California, right?

My theory:
Some new teachers never planned on being a teacher. They had plans on going to college and becoming a successful (i.e. - rich) individual, but later realized a career in the private sector was not going to be a possibility (for whatever reason: could not get hired, got fired or simply gave up). Not working for a company, they fall back on becoming a teacher because they feel/felt it was safe and once tenured they were set. The pay wasn't great, but it was good enough.

So now we have/had these teachers who are educating us and/or our kids and we are their products. Some students who begin failing because the instructor is not capable of performing probably feel that they themselves are the failure and may be embarrassed to even point out that they are having problems. If this is the case, the teacher needs to pick up on this and provide help or refer them to counseling.

These specific teachers are missing the key element to take it to the next level and make their students excel.

BTW, the key element is "ambition."

Disclaimer:
Now I know a lot of people that are or have been teachers. Some may have been working some where else and decided to become one later. Some actually became teachers initially and gave it up because they felt it was not for them. So my theory doesn't apply to just about everyone, but if you think I'm talking about you, ask me. I'll evaluate you and let you know if this applies to you. Don't just punch me in the mouth, because I will throw back some flying putasos.

Sword fight

The education system is (now) a business. If they don't produce, they go under.

The same is being done in the corporate world where customer service and resources for employees are being cut back that an organization is only operating on minimal resources in order to hit the market's expectations.

Aretha Franklin said it best:

Or was that Number 5?

Maybe, but if "many Teachers are in it for the kids and not the money," then why do we have so many complaining about their paychecks?

Are unions to blame?

Why don't we have many teachers protesting about the kids?

One of the major struggles that all teachers face here in Calexico is the fact that no one in Calexico really speaks English. You're trying to teach students a language that they never practice. I remember taking French in high school and being pretty damn good at it. I don't remember much of it now anymore though. Why? I never practiced it at home. It's the same situation.

It's a lot easier to live here being able to speak only Spanish, than it is to live here and only speak English.

While it's true that there may be a few teachers that aren't very good and that don't do their jobs right, there are a whole lot more that would be teacher of the year, every year, at any other school district in California because of all the work they put into their jobs.

Wait a second... It's so simple. The parents.

So let me get this straight, in order to solve the world's problems, we just need to respect everyone's beliefs. Simple.

Unfortunately most parents either don't have the time to help out their kids in school, or don't care enough to do so.

Next idealistic solution?

life is getting too fucking expensive here in the valley. I don't blame teachers for wanting a raise, especially when they are used to big houses,SUV's, and all the little toys they buy. Fuck, we should all get a raise with cost of living now a days

Cost of living is such a fake concept. Everything goes up in prices because of cost of doing business, so minimum wage is raised, which causes the price of doing business to go up again, which leaves everyone else who makes more than minimum wage making the same, but everything costs more.
