| It is very gratifying to read that KPBS-FM broadcasts on 97.7 FM in Calexico are considered among the best things to happen in the Imperial Valley in 2004. Good thing for us the Mall didn't happen until 2005--we would have had tougher competition--the mall is really pretty nice! We also are not insensitive to the jobs lost as a result of the change of ownership of KQVO. Unfortunately, that is usually the case when a radio station changes owners and format. I hope you'll all continue to enjoy our broadcasts, and also please let us hear from you. We are very interested in knowing more about how we're being received in the Imperial Valley, what you like & dislike about our service, if you think we are including your local weather often enough, etc. Best regards--Doug Myrland, KPBS |

| I listen to KCRW quite a bit--but Martini Shot must be one of their music programs I have not heard--anyway, KCRW has a station in Indio (KCRI 89.3 FM) that you can probably hear in some parts of the Imperial Valley if you hook an antenna to your radio. FYI we plan to have a 24-hour music channel on our new digital radio broadcasts. We hope to have the digital signal on the air in the Imperial Valley in early 2006. Then, for those who purchase one of the new HD radios, there will be a choice of our current programming on channel one, and 24 hour music on channel two. Tentatively we'll be offering a service from Soma FM and NPR called "Groove Salad." DM |

no its a five minute show which talks about the entertainment business, mainly tv and film... now that i think about it.. i dont know if it would be a good idea for imperial valley... you can podcast it from kcrw if you would like to listen to it...
I also wanted to say thank you for putting public radio in the imperial valley... this shows that the valley is becoming a more eclectic group of people... |

Even though the KPBS's listeners are primarily based in San Diego, I believe that having a certain piece on an issue or place in the Imperial Valley would be interesting to both listeners from San Diego and Imperial County.
It wouldn't have to be a regular segment, but every once in a while just throw one in.
For example, the Friends of the Border Patrol coming into Calexico on September 16th will probably get national media attention, so that could be a hot topic. Or a perfect one would have been the covering of The Holy Calexico Toast last month.
Maybe you can call the segment "Stuff 120 Miles East of San Diego." |

Yes, i think it would be agreat idea to have one or two segments that are based from calexico, this could be local social/cultural or political issues... They could be runned by the guy at SDSU calexico. I was telling ElChrist that Santa Monica transmits their city council meetings over KCRW here in Los Angeles, maybe you guys could do something like that for Calexico...
but i do not know to what extent your station capabilities are... |

We're staying open-minded about all the possibilities for content aimed at the Imperial Valley. Ideally, when we find additional resources we can find ways to increase service to listeners in both San Diego and the Imperial Valley. You may have noticed that our reporters work on a "beat" system. One covers education, another the environment, etc. They also do some general assignment work--but every one has a speciality too. Our reporter who specializes in health issues is located in
North San Diego County. He covers issues all over the area, but his desk in the North County puts him on the ground there for spot news, or whatever. One idea we have is to put a reporter full time into the Imperial Valley--have that person liive in the area and cover a beat such as Agriculture and Water. Their reports would not be exclusive to either Imperial Valley or San Diego--just like our other reporters, this person would be heard on both stations. That way all our listeners would benefit. What do you think of that idea? DM |

| I thought you guys were stationed at SDSU main campus... but that works... I know you guys range through a bigger area... I think the only other station that goes any bigger is KCRW.. they reach all the way to santa barbara and indio like you stated... I hope you guys work out a lot new shows to benefit both the imperial and san diego county... please thank all the guys that helped bring public radio to imperial valley and i hope you as well as the reporter's from pbs continue to visit this website... |

| I really like "These Days" with Tom Fudge; I'd like to see something similar for the Imperial Valley, mayebe once or twice a week, with updates on each of the cities' and county's governments, current community events, social issues, etc and have calls from the public; we need to open up broader communication channels to complement tv and newspaper. The idea of a full time reporter in IV is a very good one. |

I think that's a good idea. It would help to defeat that surreal feeling I get whenever I hear "Imperial Valley" in the advertising spots. |
