I've never heard of the band Reik before, but I'm assuming that they are indeed very popular in Mexicali. In fact, they are very popular in South America.

According to this article on The Monitor of McAllen, Texas, Riek's single off their self-titled debut album, 'Yo Quisiera," is currently ranked as #14 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks and #5 on Radio y Musica's Contemporary list. "Yo Quisiera" is also #1 in Argentina and #3 in Chile and Costa Rica.

Pretty impressive for Mexicali locals who ended up getting a contract with Sony BMG. Listen to some of their tracks on the Reik's Web site at www.reik.tv.

Indeed Reik is very popular among the Mexicali and Mexican girls in general. They have appeared on "Otro Rollo" with Adal Ramones twice, on "Hoy" twice also, and on "No Manches" once. They have sold over 100,000 copies (which is a huge accomplishment in the internet era) of their cd, and are touring all of Mexico, USA and are soon to start touring Central and South America. It's great to see local talent making it big. These kid's are only 19-21 years old. Next is their biggest test, making a second CD that proves that this first one wasn't a fluke.

No need to hate Reik, I thought they were a bunch of one time wonders and that is still to be seen. On their CD they already have two hits out of it, so they may be very well over that one time wonder hump. I listen to their music because I have a little girl that loves them. Their music is not horrible, just not what you'd find in most men's cd players.

Just read yesterday that Reik has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, for New Best Group/Artist to be held in November. Win or lose, just being nominated is a great victory for them.

its funny how many artist from Mexicali have gone national and become famous. One example is Raul Sandoval who was part of La Academia and became famous. There is a rock band that I think is called Rose Mexicana. Another guy called Rene that was at the latest academia and to a degree Carmen Love.
