I'm looking to take a few courses at our very own Imperial Valley College for the Fall 2005 semester. I've never really attended IVC and really do not know what to expect. Am I practically going back to high school or is this a legit community college that I can expect to get a decent edumacation at?

I'm hoping to get some help from those who are attending or have attended Imperial Valley College. Some pointers, if you will, on getting the best price on (used) class books, parking, whatever.

Class starts August 22nd, I'm already registered (haven't paid yet) and do not have a parking pass.

Let this thread become the Imperial Valley College (IVC) Tips & Tricks compendium.

your first tip is, get a semester parking pass. I believe that the first week is free, but then they start giving tickets.

Isn't there a "secret" parking spot where you can avoid getting a ticket?

How about at the Pioneer Museum? Do they regulate parking there?

Go to the financial aid office and get a Pell Grant. Once everyone gets the financial aid check...everyone drops out and the parking lot is empty.

Make friends. They can save you money. Nothing is worse than dropping 100 bucks on a textbook and only using it once or twice in the semester. You want to make that reliable friend that will always lend you his or her textbook(s) for those few times you may use it.

if you have a desire to have power of some sort at IVC get involve. Join the Associated Student Goverment and make a difference. You need to be a full time/ part time (6 units) student to become a member.

If you do so, then don't trust anybody.

For the first day of school be there a lot of traffic so get there in the early morning.

What classes are you taking?
