Rite Aid will close its doors on third street and will move a new state of the art building next to Food4Less.
Walgreens was suppose to be there but since they decided not to come to calexico because they could not compete with Mexicali.
Rite Aid will move within a years time. |

Why is Rite Aid moving from their current location?
The location downtown gets a lot of foot traffic, from what I've noticed. I don't know if these customers are from Mexicali or just neighboring residents of Calexico. There is no doubt that the F4L area will give it a lot more exposure and now the upscale towners will begin to shop there. I have a feeling that many don't now.

I believe it was because they can't compete with the Thrifty's ice cream.

I'm a little concerned now about what business will occupy the Third Street building. |

I think the only reason why the upscale towner will only go to that area for Starbucks and Rite Aid.. not for Food For Less...

I think walgreeens retrieve their bid because of Rite aid, but the bigger issue is the fact that the city of calexico and its chamber did not fight for this business to stay.
If some one knows differently from what I said let me know.. I am always interested in what the insiders got to say.... |

There's already the old Quarters arcade/billiards behind Donut Ave. on Third. It sucks, but it's there.
I think an ice skating rink would do good. Hey, why not? |

Walgreens?
Who ever is running this company must be smoking some dank. They open a brand new store right next (same shopping center) to a Super Wal-Mart in the Eastlake area. Of course, no one is in there. Its far more expensive.
While a Walgreens might have been a cool idea for bringing new business into town I doubt it would have lasted. Either that or Calexico's elite once again showed their true colors... |

There is a talk destroy that building and make space for a new parking lot.
Walgreens was suppose to come along with Food4Less and Carls Jr but they decided not to come becasue--they said-- people prefared to go to Mex and buy their medicines there and that would be a loss for them. Following one of the teachings of the Art of War that says "When the enemy retreats, we attack" Rite Aid made its move.
Rite Aid actually planned to expand their place last year to make it bigger but their plan did not worked so they droped that idea. They decided to move to bring more quality to the costumers. When you think about it, our Rite Aid is miserable compared to the onces in El Centro and Brawley. Expect to have something like that here in Calexico. |

I agree with the condition of Rite Aid. I hope that there are other pharmacies that are planning to join our community... |
