Has anyone been to the Mexicali Observatorio (Observatory)?

I've been told about it by a couple people recently and apparently Mexicali has a state of the art observatory on the outskirts of the city. There's supposed to be a paved road to it and lots of people actually go and check in to visit it.

This is pretty interesting to me, since I had never really known that one did exist in the area. It sounds like it's fairly easy to get to as well.

the closest I can think of is the observatorio in the Sierra San Pedro Martir which is parallel to the west from San Felipe. It stands on top of a cliff and I think it can be seen from the east (San Felipe) but it can't be accessed from there unless you want to climb 3000 meters. It is administered by UNAM and unfortunately it can only be accessed from Ensenada going south to the Colonet area and there there is a detour of some 70mi to the east.

i know this is old, im not sure if thers an observatory in mexicali but ive been to the one in San Pedro Martir. Its supposed to be the 2nd most powerful one in Latin America. They take you on a tour and show you the actual "telescope" and then take you outside on a little walkway that looks like it wouldnt hold 100 pounds. actually there is another entrance on the ensenada-san felipe highway but the reoad is pretty rough and only for 4x4 vehicles. Ill post some pictures from up there if you guys want..
