Demographics show that Spanish is the first language with local taxpayers plus the city gets a large amount of Mexicali shoppers. It's essential that local police speak Spanish- Yes, maybe the officers do not speak Shakespears English and yes, maybe some speak with a thick accent, and yes, maybe some speak with an OKIE twang but nobody is perfect.
This is a border town very dependent on Mexicali. We want good people-regardless of the thick Mexican accent. I'm not ashamed of these young men. |

We shouldn't criticize anybody for the way they speak English. Just as long as they speak English. Speaking both languages is a plus and an essential skill for working at C-Town. We all speak Border lingo anyway.
I was in Vegas last month (Vegas baby, yeah!) and sat at a blackjack table with some guys from the United Kingdom. What we call English, is the language guys like those speak. And their English didn't sound like mine. I remember telling them I thought their accent was cool. They told me so was mine. (What accent?)
We are what we are, where we are. |

Calexico PD or Traffic Cops?
It seems as of late the new CPD philosophy is to ticket anyone in sight for any reason.
I know that the laws states you need to have your seatbelt on or a front plate on your car, but citing citizens on their driveways is another thing.
Several calecianos have been ticketed backing out of their driveways because they didn't have their seatbelts on. I in part do this frequently. As I reverse, I like to look over my shoulder, pull out, and once I put the car in gear I adjust my seatbelt.
But it's nice to know that CPD follows the strict letter of the law. Only if the same thing could be said about the local cop force.
Does anyone know the CPD policy for cell phone use by local cops while on duty? I saw a cop text, receive a text, and reply to a text in a short drive. |

Does anyone know the name of the CPD officer who in responding to a noise complaint (house party) jumped the fence and landed in the pool?
Afterward, was overheard "F my gun is wet."
For now, I'll call him Officer Fred O'Bannion. |

| I wonder if the pending litigation will change the attitudes of the CPD. |
