This is for the younger crowd.... I don't know if you have noticed but MOST of the backyard gigs in Calexico are filled with ska bands. I mean there's nothing wrong with ska it's music, but if a metal or emo band is invited to the same gig all the ska kids talk shit. There's no real big point to this it's just that everyone has been brainwashed with SKA. That's all everyone listen to now. I like it too but if an emo band is playing I like them too and if i don't like them I keep my mouth shut. TOO MANY SKA KIDS!!!!!! AAA ........

I'm kinda surprised that people are still listening to ska these days. I always wondered why Mexicali had a big ska scene that didn't seem to die.
I'm not a big fan of ska. There's only so much you can do with, guitar-wise, before you throw in a bunch of horns.
Operation Ivy was the best I thought, since they had the roughness of punk and of course the talent of the band. I enjoyed Common Rider a lot because Jesse Michaels creativity and Mass Giorgini's incredible bass lines.
What new bands are big in the local ska scene now or is it mainly The Clash, The Specials and all the rest of the 80s bands? |

No they're all into the new stuff, and nothing in English. They only listen to ska in spanish because the one in English sucks according to them  |
