This is the question. if the polar ice caps melted and sea level rose
how high must sea level rise before it crosses the colorado delta barrier and begins flooding Mexicali/Calexico
and about how far south of Mexicali would it first start going down hill.
aka. at what elevation & where in mexico is the point of the delta which is keeping the ocean out.

I think you got us here.
Calexico is approximately -1 foot below sea level, but I'm not sure about Mexicali. There are some mountains south of us, so that could protect us from some mass flooding.
Do you know something we don't about global warming? |

its not the mountains its the sand delta that keeps the ocean out
My best guess the elevation im looking for is somewhere around 40ft above sea level but im not sure . Im working on a project which includes digital restoration of some pre 1905 maps of the colorado desert. on one of the maps the elevations are mostly unreadable then I saw a newscast the other day where they were talking about the melting of the glaciers and ice caps and talking to islanders whos atolls would be in danger of vanishing under the waves. which got me thinking about this question in the first place.
as a side note the alternate answer to the elevation question is zero
if the sea level rose to the point of crossing then that new height becomes sea level. |
