Last night I drove around a few different blocks looking for the flautas shop I would normally go to when I have a flauta craving, but for some reason I couldn't find it. I decided to hit up the one in front of the Catedral in Mexicali since it had been brought up before as being good even though there were frequent sightings of cucarachas. I parked in front and went inside.

I saw a couple eating an orden and they looked pretty good so I decided to stay and get me some. This place is quite filthy, but the food is good overall. A little spicier and meatier than usual, but indeed filling at $20 pesos for a dozen with everything (aguacate, repolle, salsa). I still prefer the old place I used to go to where they were much simpler and offered much less (or no) meat at $11 pesos a dozena.

Anyone recommend any flautas places in Mexicali?

I like to go eat flautas in downtown Mexicali. You can walk there form the border. Walk into Mexicali to Hotel del Norte. Walk south past the railroad tracks, past Barberia Charly's (the best) until you get to the corner. There you will find a ice cream stand. Make a left, go past the alley and up ahead to you left you'll find the flauta shop. It's small so heads up......
Peace out ! Razz

It's been a long time since I've had flautas, but I used to always go to either the one's in front of the old Cine Cali or La Baratita, which is in la colonia Nueva Esperanza. Lately I've been going to Las Larguchonas which are nothing compared to the traditional flautas we're used to, but they're way more delicious and filling.

Thanks. I don't plan on it.

When I was inside, this family walked in and then walked out. About a minute later this dirty old man from the sidewalk came in bitching and moaning about how they said the flautas place was a mess. I realized at that moment that I shouldn't have been there myself.

Thankfully I noticed that the cook kept washing his hands and cleaning the pots and pans, but this WAS with Mexicali water.

if you want to go eat flautas, expect a filthy place with people from the lowest classes with "uneducated" eating manners. I try flautas once in a while, but I keep in mind all these things. I have only been once to that place in front of the cathedral and sighted cucarachas, I left not necesarily because of that but because I wasn't being helped by the mesero so I walked away. I will never go there again and the place is not recommended. One thing that I can't stand is people yelling "deme una pata" I would never eat that horrible thing that is so low.

There is a place in front of the bars block one block east to El tecolote parking, it's a small place painted in blue. The place is humble as well as the customers but I have never had a bad experience there. And suprrisingly, this is the only flauta place that I have never felt nausea after.
