A boxing gym? Simply unbelievable.
It's ridiculous how people try to get the youth involved in boxing. What for? So they can learn to fight better on the streets? You know this is the reason many dads put their sons into boxing.
I bet the person who wrote up this survey prioritized them in this same order. Note how a library was second to last on the list, before "Other."
What about a cultural/historical center, museum, computer lab... something that will enlighten the minds of your young citizens.
Boxing gym. |

I'm with JITB here. Why weren't some of these items put on the list?
Why would they put a swimming pool on the survey when they can't seem to keep the one at the high school open to the public?
It seems like the first two are some good choices. There's one community center in Calexico, but it's on the east side of town. There actually needs to be one on the west side of the tracks, but this would be close enough.
A senior citizen center could work. It seems like it would be a low cost alternative to anything else, but is this high in demand?
There's already a library in Calexico and no one seems to go to it. At least I haven't since I graduated from CHS, but this doesn't mean a thing, but a chicken wing.
Is there a need for a homeless shelter in town? |

| A Community Center for the west side sounds like a good idea to me. That way, it could be used by a broader cross section of the community from Senior Citizen Activities to indoor youth sports. It can also be used for wedding receptions, quinceaneras (sp.?), private parties? Good to hear Calecia is moving on with this... |

i say put another jack in the box there.. god knows that thats the only area where there isnt a jack in the box...
but in all honesty, i think community center is the best.. with the indor pool and everything... the joint is big enough for everything...
I think they should have the ymca take over it... there pretty good in offering all sorts of classes and such to the community and really cheap... but then again.. its just me that feels that another community center will end up like the one we already have which dosent work for anything but quinceaneras and such... |

Swimming pool, Swimming pool, Swimming pool, Swimming pool!!!
Think about it. Think about all we could do if we only had a pool:
We could have water polo, diving competitions, 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1500 m frestyle competitions, 50 m, 100 m, and 200 m butterfly competitions, 50 m, 100 m, and 200 m backstroke competitions, individual and relay medley competitions, bikini contests, slip and slide, tobogan, pool-side bar, wave machine, and please a separate wading pool for peeing kids. |

| I think a community center with at least some type of computer lab. The only free internet access people in calexico have is the library which only has like five computers. I think it's the only computer lab. |
