I don't know a lot about this, so if I'm missing anything, or having something wrong, please correct me.
About 10 minutes outside of Calecia on 98, there is a field that has thorns. These thorns are supposed to be the same thorns that were used to make the crown Jesus wore when he was crucified.
What makes it significant is that these thorns are only supposed to grow in a spot in Jerusalem and here in the Valley. |

You're talking about is the Crucifixion Thorn plant. Yeah, they are very similar to the Crown of Thorns plant (which is only found in the Middle East), but it's not the same plant and is actually quite common in Sonora, MX and Arizona, US. What makes the site interesting is that Crucifixion Thorn is very rare in California and this particular site is pretty well preserved.
Lots of people go there all the time and steal Crucifixion Thorn thinking the plant's got some sort of religion connotation, but the joke's on them, isn't it? |
