Wouldn’t it be great to be able to make that type of deal with the Manzanita Tribe concerning this Casino? Also the Quechan Casino will house a 600 room hotel along with a 150 outlet store mall. So why does it now look like we are getting shortchanged on this deal with the Manzanita tribe?
By the way it’s been five months since the Casino Vote, and I haven’t heard a thing about the casino… what’s going on?
Could the casino deal be going the way the mall deal went? To EC? |
When Calexico voted to allow the tribe to build the casino it was said that it could take up to six years before they even break ground. The casino will be built in Calexico eventually. |

Quechan vs Calexico= Apples vs oranges
Quechan is sovereign country-they can do whatever they want plus they have access to Interstate 8 where the NY bankers like to finance hotels, shopping centers, etc. The Calexico project is "off the reservation" therefore the Indian tribe has to get political permission from Sacramento and Washington DC which takes a while
I said this before- no banks finance shopping malls unless they have close proximity access to the freeway. Witness Yuma, Grossmont, Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, UTC, Cabazon Outlet, Ontario Mall. |

So you are telling me that El Centro did not want anything to do with a Casino?? Before you say yes to that answer please prove to me that you have something to back it up.
Aside from that, you guys are totally missing the point here… the Quechan nation is actually building roads that will lead to the casino… this is going to be something like Sycuan or Barona where the thing is like 5 to 10 miles from the freeway. Actually most of the casinos that are in the Yuma and San Diego County are far away from the freeways. I think the only exceptions are Viejas, golden acorn and paradise. My whole point is that we are giving the Casino in Calexico a free pass; I mean how much money are casinos willing to put down in order to get off reservation Casinos in an area? Quechan (even though they own the land) is willing to make a completely new Port of Entry in Algodones. How many millions will that cost? What has the Manzanita band promised the city? The Casino is six years away, that’s understandable, but heck they are planning to put it right next to highway 111, so why not make the Manzanita band create an off ramp for the casino instead of a signal light? Or are you guys willing to just sit there and wait for the thing to be built before you start yapping about the horrible traffic that has occurred because of the casino. I say that Calexico needs to get on the ball with the casino and seriously make all these arraignments to make sure that Calexico does get a really good deal from the Casino, and not just peanuts.
Let’s not make the same mistake that El Centro made when they said, why not? Let’s build the mall and then deal with all the traffic problems. And today, the Dannenberg off ramp and on ramp to Freeway 8 is an accident waiting to happen. El Centro has its mall, but why not have an Outlet Center in Calexico? The thing is only 3 miles away from the freeway and it will not be off in the distance on a two way road either… Plus the Outlet Center will be geared towards all the people who like to go to Viejas and Cabazon to shop there rather than to go shopping at the IV Mall. This means that a lot of the people that come from Mexicali will end up shopping at the outlet center. By the way banks do lend money to shopping malls outside of the freeway area. If you don’t believe me, then ask yourself how the South Gate Mall in Yuma is getting funded to be renovated.
By the way please stop bringing up the whole six year thing about getting clearance for the casino. I know that, but if people forget about the casino issue, then the casino will end up being more like the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio than Casino Morongo in Cabazon. By the way, which one would you prefer to have in Calexico??? Check it out.

In 2007 the casino might be approved the state assembly and the governor as the compact will go through them this year that was negotiated by the Casino and Calexico.
However, the governor might call for the county to have special elections for the whole county on this issue if he does decide that its the best for the county.
will see. |

From what I have heard, the Quechan tribe will be donating money for a new port. Maybe we can have the Manzanita/Viejas tribe help us out restructure the old port so that it can be more accessible… As for the governor, I do not think that he will mandate a county wide vote… But you never know… I think that the city as well as its constituents should dwell on the casino and have them bring more than just a simple casino… (i.e... Outlets) |

I'm interested in the design aspect of the casino. Will it look like a Golden Acorn or like a Viejas? |
