Everyone's right. The IV Mall was built on land annexed into the City of EC, that used to be County's land. Now EC is reaping the benefits of the sales tax monies the mall is generating. The County is not. The county supervisors probably realized they f'd up and are trying to get whatever they can from the casino. But to me, it's a moot issue to the county. It's a city of Calexico issue!
Maybe I'm not following this right, but isn't Victor Carillo, from Calexico, on the County Board of Supervisors? Is he defending Calexico's interest? This county vote is a laugh. Why wasn't there such a big deal made when Paridise Casino was built on the California side of Imperial County?
As far as El Centro is involved, I don't think they are concerned about the casino. Haven't heard the EC Council talk about it. The Supervisors represent county cities, like Heber, Seeley, and other little towns. |

Calexico will not make a county wide election because the county wants us to pay for that. A county wide vote will happen if the governor or the department of the interior order that to happen. In the meantime, Calexico will not pay for the county wide vote.
In response to Bloodstar1, Victor Carrillo allocated 800 thousand for road improvements including the expansion of west Cole Rd. Carrillo gave that money to the mall to improve the roads.
So there. |

The Manzanita tribe got the option to buy 60 acres of Calexico for their casino, which will be located on the southwest corner of Jasper Rd. and Highway 111.

Will there be different laws inside this land? |

| The Indians have to get government approval for off reservation property and it will be a long laborious process with lobbyists and large political donations. Then it will be sovereign land-anything goes except for murder and rape. No unions and or regulations. You are at the mercy of the tribe.Hopefully a lot of locals will get good paying jobs. |

A good question for the Calexico casino watch group. What ever happened to them? |

Last week while driving back from Calexico to LA, I stopped at the 76 gas station near Salton city to buy a snack (since I was falling asleep). Right next to the station there was this fairly large building being built. It was fairly large for it to be an extension of the gas station and it was large enough because there aren’t that many building in Salton City…
So I asked the clerk and to my surprise, IT’S A CASINO!
So this made me wonder… Why is it that the county did not make any rant over the issue of a Casino within the Imperial County Limits regarding the Casino at Salton City but its raising hell over the Casino in Calexico??? Does anyone have any information about this??? Or why nothing of this sort has been published anywhere?? Or is Imperial County writing off Salton City as basically property of Riverside County??? |

| I believe the casino near Salton City is within the limits of the Torres-Martinez indian reservation, just like the California side of the Paradise casino was in the Quechan reservation. Hence the less debated process. |

Speaking of the Quechan Nation, I've overheard that the Quechan Nation is in talks with the CBP about making the Algodones POE a 10 lane POE. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to make that type of deal with the Manzanita Tribe concerning this Casino? Also the Quechan Casino will house a 600 room hotel along with a 150 outlet store mall. So why does it now look like we are getting shortchanged on this deal with the Manzanita tribe?
By the way it’s been five months since the Casino Vote, and I haven’t heard a thing about the casino… what’s going on?
Could the casino deal be going the way the mall deal went? To EC? |
