Crappy bigger cities, Calexico is the Second Biggest city in the county. And the only reason why it hasnt become the biggest city in the county is because those people at city hall wont relax their wacked out building codes that just drives everyone away. On top of that, they are too busy complaining about how they cant continue to grow because they cant support the infrastructure that needs to be added to all new communities. Why do you think houses in calexico are more expensive than el centro imperial and even heber???

Now based on population, Calexico does have the potential to become bigger than El Centro... It just needs to adjust its stragety so that it can attract more people and more buildings....

Population of cities in 2005
El Centro: 41,030
Calexico : 32,600

I think that if Calexico does move along with all those projects that it has planned with in the next 15 years, calexico will become the largest city in the county. The best part of this whole thing is that the Casino will pave the way for Calexico to expand two fold with in the next decade.

If managed properly, Calexico would've already been at 200,000 plus.

No bullshit.

What is going with our represenatives in Calexico, where is the courage when dealing with government officals around the valley. I know that there is pro's and con's with having a casino here in the valley and will impact the srounding cities, but Calexico is it's own city and everyone else should consider it. The Imperial Valley Mall also brought impact around the sourrunding cities and only one city is benefiting from it. Why didn't we do a ballot county wide. Because the El Centro officals have the gut's to tell everyone back off. We should motivate our represenatives to do the same. Any's I believe that a county wide ballot to vote for the casinos will happen. I shouldn't happen. No matter what any other city decided it is there's to struggle or prosper.

We are living in a city with over a million people. They called our city- Barrio Calexico- a middle class suburb north of Mexicali. We all speak the same language; same culture and customs. Our barrio is economically dependent on Mexicali- but we get the luxury of welfare, food stamps, unemployment, disability, Jack In the Box in every corner and free tuition-books.

The Imperial Co. Board of Supervisors will not be relevant in the next few years- why because Heber-El Centro- will be part of Barrio Calexico and the entire county population will be concentrated in the Calecia- Heber-El Centro corridor.

The Imperial Valley Mall was not brought up to a county-wide vote because the City of El Centro annexed county land to build it upon, thus making it a municipal issue. The "Imperial Valley" part of the name is simply semantics in action.

The casino, if built on land wholly managed by the City of Calexico, is an issue to be dealt with solely by the Calexico City Council and its constituents. But, I guess I'm only reiterating your point, here.

Question is who is going to be running the so called "Barrio Calexico" El Centro?? or the County??? Because the way things are looking now, even Heber is more powerfull than Calexico when it comes to political affairs

Well if you count all the traffic, its more than 75k... the traffic at imperial and hwy 98 carries 75k cars a day... that’s 2.5 percent more than the population of Calexico...

Speaking of traffic, it is amazing how much traffic there is on hwy 111…

I just felt the need to toss that in.
