Calexico City Councilman John Renison, a point man in discussions with the two tribes since last year, said a committee would be formed to negotiate the development agreement. Its composition probably would include two City Council members, the city manager and city attorney, and two to three community at-large members. He said casino opponents would be asked to suggest at-large nominees.
The agreement will cover issues such as funding for roads, infrastructure improvements, police and fire protection. Manzanita also will be expected to contribute to the city's general fund and provide community services, Renison said.

I wonder if this casino will give fisrt priority to those who come from the Indian Tribe who will build the casino like other Indian Casinos. First they give preference to the Indians and THEN others who apply. Lets hope and see if it will be a equal oppurtunity employer or just another Indian Tribe casino. The casino should fork out with funds to hire more police. On a good day you probably only have four (4) officers on patrol give or take. Calexico gets thousands of visitors from Mexico as is now. It will go up if the casino does get build. Lets get tough with these people wanting to build here for THEIR benefit. Stop screwing the citizens.............

Calexico council OKs proposal by East County tribe for casino

The Manzanita Indian band's proposal for an off-reservation casino in Calexico cleared a key hurdle this week with City Council approval of a revenue-sharing agreement between the East County tribe and the Imperial County border city.
Under the 23-page agreement unanimously adopted Thursday, Manzanita and its development partner, the Viejas Indian band, would pay the city more than $2 million a year and fund a long list of service and infrastructure upgrades.

If the casino is approved- the casino is exempt from civil US law. Basically the employee doesn't have any rights- they can do what they want with you-
However if the casino can provide money to the city and increase the tax base. It's better than WALMART nation. I heard the other cities are jealous because we have the first one. It's my understanding that the Bulldogs will have a new nickname: GOLDEN ACORNS

They probably overlooked the part where it states that all the Mexicans will be kicked out of Calexico and replaced with Indians. |

So apperently the County is having a shit fit over the fact that calexico is going ahead with the plans to built the casino...
What they dont want anyone to know is that there is already a casino being built in Imperial county, its right next to salton city... Im wondering why the county hasnt said anything about that??? Maybe because that one is not being built in CALEXICO. |
