I was reading the Opinions on the Imperial Valley Press and came across one that was related to the casino being built in Calexico. The person who wrote in, Eddie Richey from Calexico, claimed to be quite familiar with gambling habits as he had written a script based on the accounts of someone he was close to. The script was later produced into the 1998 movie Phoenix, which stars Ray Liotta. Also appearing in the film were Brittany Murphy, Jeremy Piven of HBO's Entourage, and even one of the Baldwin brothers (Daniel).

After looking up Eddie Richey's bio on the IMDb, I found that he also wrote a comedy titled Farewell to Raskolnikov's which was released in 2005. He was also one of the writers for the TV series (John Grisham's) The Client back in 1995.

I've never heard of any of these films, but now knowing that someone local was involved in them makes me want to rent them, if available. Has anyone seen any of them?

I've heard that the editor for the IV Press, Bret Kofford used to write for some T.V. show.

I think the name of the show was "Sledgehammer," or something. Never seen it.

It was probably a fake name written to the newspaper. The IV Press is full of "pendejos" who don't verify names and the only Richie I know is Lionel.

I did a quick search for "Eddie Richey" and "Calexico" and found two listings which reference an "Eddie Richey" located in the city of Calexico.

According to these two Web sites, he's also a bad card trader.
