According to consumer advisor and master of frugality Clark Howard, there are five things you should never buy brand new. Clark recommends that you always purchase the following items used:
1) Car
2) House
3) Children's clothes and toys
4) Musical instruments
5) CDs and DVDs
I'd like to add another item to the list and that's:
6) Books
Unless you're a book collector collecting ancient work, there's really no need to keep your shelves filled with them. When you're done reading it, just sell or trade it and get a new one. I suppose some exceptions do apply.
Do you have any recommendations? If so, why do you recommend you buy this item used? |

1 Girlfriend. Looking for the brand new one will get you in the direction.
2 Tools. Just go to Santo Tomas like me. But be careful because some of the vendors tend to sell them more expensive than stores.
3 I have to buy my 80's Lego sets used anyways, but I would love them to be new. |

As many of you know, certain brands like Craftsman have lifetime warranty on their tools, so if you buy them used (even broken) they will replace them. |
