The 14th Annual Calexico Mariachi Festival is this Saturday, May 14th. The mariachis performing are Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi Mujer 2000 and Mariachi Mixteco, which I'll admit I know nothing about.

I think this year I may be attending, if possible. Seems like something interesting to do this weekend and it will allow me to deliberately bump some of the locals within the crowds.

Anyone else going?

If you go to the mariachi festival then you might also be going to the CHS prom because they are having it on the same day at SDSU.

I don't know if Hildy Carrillo was able to talk to CHS but if they didn't change the prom date then people might go to the Mariachi Festival and prom at the same time.

How so, when both events are being held in two different physically located venues?

Maybe things might have changed by know but I learned that both, the prom and the Mariachi Fest will take place AT SDSU. One at the Rodney Auditorium and the Prom at the quad area.

It's Crummett Park. I don't know where this guy is getting the misinformation.

having grown up next to crummett park, i really do not like to see it all fenced up like they do for these kind of events. it makes it look like a corrections yard. Tear down the fence, free the park.

It's not going to happen any time soon. The surrounding homeowners complained about the fence last year and it was obviously not removed. I haven't seen the park yet, but I can bet there is black plastic sheeting on the fence to block anyone trying to get a free show. You can listen, but you can't see.

In my opinion, the fence should be removed. No chain link fence ever looked nice.

There is already another venue that can be used for the mariachi festival and that's Nosotros Park. It's already fenced up and has a large enough plot of ground to meet the capacity of Crummett Park.

The only problem? It stinks.
