I went to get myself a Foster cone today and noticed a sign on the counter that said beginning April 30, 2005 the Calexico Foster's Freeze would be temporarily closed for remodeling. I glanced around inside through the window and saw that it did look like it needed quite a bit of work, but I wasn't too sure if a remodel was the best choice for this ice cream shop. I believe a restoration is at hand, although I don't understand why they just don't wait for next winter since they may end up losing a lot of sales.

Regardless, I'm glad to see that something is being done to make the building a little more appealing. Hopefully they'll be bringing back the air conditioned room so that the next time I order a cone it doesn't melt on the way to the car when it's a nice 110 degrees outside.

While it does need a facelift, they need to add 1-2 employees, and let you order a burger without taking 30 minutes, nor getting pissed if you order anything tother than an ice cream. I've been there to order a burger only to get dirty looks from the one employee there to take all the orders and to make the food as well. I don't blame the person for getting upset at my order, but why offer burgers if you're not willing to make them?

I like Foster's hamburgers a lot, so when I used to get the bullshit response of "no esta el cocinero" it used to piss me off, but there was nothing I could do. The oven was off, so I'd have to wait for it to heat up. And if I did wait, I'd have to stare down the cook while they made my meal to avoid the potential addition of a secret ingredient. It wasn't really worth the time.

The "no esta el concinero" excuse was revealed to me by an (ex-)employee who claimed they occasionaly used it because they were lazy. They also recommended not to have the chicken, because I think it was frozen when they cooked it.

Ultimately, you can't blame the employees for not wanting to cook. The owners do need to hire more employees to avoid having a long line in the baking heat.

That's the good thing about Foster's Freeze-it's the only restaurant in the Valley where you can see if the cook spits on your food.

Oh, oh. Foster Freeze isn't remodeling by choice. Looks like the health inspectors paid them a visit.

This place went downhill once the chino's bought the joint.

They sure messed up the Big Kahuna burger.

Don't get me started with their shakes.
