As the new mayor took office last week, Alex Perrone did something different at the beginning of the meeting yesturday. He said that from now on there will be prayer at the beginning of the meeting.

Yesturday, he had a pastor of a christian church do a prayer and there will be many prayers to come with different people like Jewish, Catholic, and so on.

This is good for the city because we know that our mayor believes in God and the holy spirit will guide the council. That is what government should be. Faith and goverment should be togheter and im now sure that the secular forces that are driven by quasi-instutions like the ACLU are being destroyed by acts like this.

So let the prayer begain!!!

Once again, your dimwitted antics contaminate our eyes by reading your inane, senseless bullshit. Sorry, but I could not resist responding this time. Government and religion have never made a good combination, and we have something called history books to prove this. Hence, an addition in our constitution (aka the highest law) saying something along the lines of "separation of church and state". Apparently, you assholes can't ever get this through your one only brain cell, which is probably moribund by now.

Although this is completely wrong, I don't seem to have a problem with it as long as all religious beliefs are covered. This includes Muslim and Satanism. I want to be there and witness a Satanic prayer during city council.

Government should not include religion. (period)

Just like there is no proof that aliens exist, there is no proof that god(s) exists. As far as we are all concerned, it is all a figment of our imagination.

Radiotard, what you speak is utter bullshit. You obviously don't see a problem with this because you claim to be a Catholic. If Mayor Perrone would have been a Satanist or Mulsim and conducted his own prayer, he would have been stoned. The majority of Calexico residents may be Catholic, but that does not mean that the local government should automatically turn their sessions into mass.

While I agree that there needs to be a seperation between Church and State, it also important to note that the U.S. House and Senate begin their daily sessions with an invocation (prayer). I think that it is ok for someone to come up and pray as long as they don't start preaching up there, which is what I think the seperation thing comes into play. At least that is the way that it was said by the U.S. Supreme Court, which is the highest law of the land.

Starting off public meetings with a prayer is not new. Just new to Calexico I guess. There is nothing wrong with starting a meeting with a prayer. I 100% support that notion. Cudos to you Perone.

US history and the formation of this nation was based "Under God" and we have since strayed away. At least in the city coucnil meetings, there will be some return to traditionl

We should also honor the Buddhists. My organized crime figure buddies also go to to church on Sunday's with families in tow.

Our greatest political leaders have been agnostic.

That face is to represent the movement through my bowels that ocurred when I read that little bit of Rupert Murdoch inspired clap. Uuuuunnnggghhhhhh. Aaah, that's better.

Look RDude...

1. Go to the bookstore. Wait, there are no bookstores in Calexico, because none of you fools read (too busy watching smackdown). scratch that.

2. get on the computer that you are on, surf over to Amazon, and order a copy of the Constitution of the United States of America. Go in that bad boy, read it over and get back to me when you find God, Jeebus, or any other deity.

3. Once you've figured out that you're not going to find them in there, you'll realize that those dead white slaveowners actually knew what they were doing. And stop getting your talking points from Rick Roberts and Roger Hedgecock already.

4. Osama Bin Laden would love you. Love faith and government? Move to Saudi Arabia. They might cut your tongue off though.

Jeebus lousizus, this kind of thinking is what leads to people like Tom DeLay getting elected.

Out.

I guess I'm in the minority here with Radiodude. I don't see a problem with referencing God at public meetings. In God we trust is on US currency, the National Anthem also references to God, the Pledge of Allegiance has "one nation, Under God."

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a prayer said by a different religion or belief. Sort of rotate the prayers. One meeting it could be a Catholic, the next a Baptist, etc.

Either way, prayer is important.

These were added in order for the US to differ themselves from the evil communists.

Are you aware that until the early 1900s, the salute to the American flag was done in the same manner as "Heil Hitler!" straight-arm salute? In fact, the Nazi party copied it from the United States, so the US felt the need to change it.

I don't think that there should be a prayer said in any type of government meeting. It's ordaining the idea of religion.

That's why we have seperation of church and state. It's true that it's there to protect people that want to be in a religion that is not considered the majority, but it is also there to protect people that don't want to be a part of any religion at all.
