The hell with Matchett, Pond, Bromling, and Lucas......none have been better than Rasmussen, and never will be.....@ CHS,....Lucas was succesfull beucase of Rasmussens efforst in prior years with the kids at DE anza....and the only reasons why the band didn't keep winning is becuase rasmussen influence ran out...and lucas never taught anything ...and matchett is crazy......
Pond and Bromlling were...old....and won ocasinally... |

You guys keep forgetting that for the past 10 years, there has been two Jr. High Schools in Calexico. Therefore Rassmussen has only influenced half of the Calexico High School Band kids for the last decade. Some of you swear that the guy does miracles but I truly believe that it is the generation of kids in the band that win awards, not the teacher. Great example, back in 97-98 when we won the sweepstakes at Cattle Call, that same band went on to win many other first place trophies in other places. But the school year before it we didn’t even place in cattle call. The year after that 98-99 the only great accomplishment that I think is worth mentioning was us beating Central at the mother goose parade. This is why my belief is that it has to do with the generation of kids in the band for that year. 97-98 was a great year and I must say that all of us in band where really committed to winning. Heck we even qualified for the Rose Parade that year. But typical Pond didn’t want to go… |

| Rasmussen has won first place at the junior high level at cattle call every year, for about twenty years believe it or not, this year was the first time her ever lost.....he also has a couple of sweepstakes awards.....bromlings kids at willie haven't place in cattle call since i was 2000 and they barely placed 3rd...shows the difference, for the past two years when CHS Band won cattle call twice in a row and had about 7 or 8 "superiors" it was msotly kids from De anza taht had all the first parts and were the chingones in band..now it's alot of willie.....so yeah it's the generation of students who did it.....but they were all taught by rasmussen |

If he is so "bad ass" as you say he his, then why is it that he lost cattle call this year... aside from that, he hasnt won sweepstakes every single year, that means that his band dosent match up to the high school bands??
Also remember, that Band competition is a team efford... If the willie kids wherent as good as the deanza kids then the willie kids at the high school level would bring down the band. This would not let the rest of the band win awards... regardless of who the "chingones" are... |

He has won a couple of sweepstakes awards yes, but has gotten st place as a junior high 90% of the time in the last twenty years, this year i guess he slacked off or something but they got 2nd.......no his band does not match up with highschool bands BUT they compete with them and eventually produces chingon high school band kids......and i do agree, willie kids bring down deanza kids...in band |

I guess people only listen to things they want to hear... As I was stating on my previous post…
The band winning or not is not solely based on how many “chingones” you have from De Anza or which Jr. High School is better…. It is solely based on how the kids do when they reach the High School. I’ve saw many of the “chingones” kids from De Anza be dwarfed by the kids from Willie and vice versa in the three years I was in the band. I am not out there to put down any of the two schools… What I will say is that the only reason why Calexico High wins or does not win is solely based on how the band for that year works in harmony… Regardless of individual achievement.
If you want to believe that the only reason why the band wins is because of De Anza, then you guys are in for a shocker next year when you get all the duds into Calexico High that lost cattle call this past year. |
