Here is this years line-up. Can hardly wait!!! Anyway, if any of you want to check out The Arcade Fire, they will perform tonight on Conan O Brien (10:35) I saw them at the Casbah two weeks ago and even after seeing hundreds of bands play live, their performance is up there in the top ten, i have seen. Thier live performance was phenomenal. As for this years Coachella Fest, I am really looking forward to seeing Bauhaus, NIN and Cocteau Twins. A lot of the other bands i have already seen like, Weezer, Chem Bros., New Order and Prodigy. But, Wilco, M83, Mercury Rev, Gang of Four,Ambulance LTD and Fantomas ( one of Mike Patton from Faith No More many side projects)
Tickets go on sale on Feb 5, 05 and tickets are $80 bones for a one day pass and $150 for a two day pass. Its like seeing two months worth of shows in 2 days.
I read they are expecting 100,000 people this year and i know a lot of limey's are coming and people from all over the world as well. Last year it felt really overcrowded with 50,000 people so i dont know. The first year in 1999 it was really nice because there wasnt many people but as the fest grows in popularity (I know, bummer. But we cant be selfish) it draws more folks. I think the promoters Goldenvoice, want to make this fest like Englands Reeding or Glasontbury festivals.

I don't want to sound like a hater but I am kind of disapointed with this years line up. Nothing has lived up to the bill since the Red Hot Chilli Peppers played 2 years back. Have u guys seen the tickets prices....whoa they are an arm and a leg...

Well nothing is ever going to top last years line-up and thats why i think so many people from all over the county came. I have gone to all of them since 1999 (2000 there was not festival) and last year was just too packed. Mabye this way if they dont have too many acts like last year, (The Cure, Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Kraftwerk, The Pixies and Air). Mabye if there are less healiners we can enjoy it more. Expensive $80 dlls a day (plus service chrg. Ticketmaster Sucks) is not that much, I dont think to see all these live acts in one shot. Tickets for U2 are outrageous. and thats for one act. Just depends, as compared to what? Its not cheap i know, but figure all the acts that have to be paid and all the other expenses. In 1999 tickets were $45. Then in 2001-2002 they were $60, The two day pass went up $20 from last year. But its always worth every penny.

As for The Fiery Furnaces, ill probably go check them out because i haven't seen them live, but depends on who else is playing at that time. If British Sea Power or the Arcade Fire are playing at the same time as them, its going to be a tough call. But i would like to see Arcade Fire again though, they were really impressive.

I've never attended the Coachella Music Festival, for numerous reasons. They do indeed get some good acts to perform, but it's such a pain in the ass to watch the bands you want.

This is the problem with many festivals. I was at the LA Shakedown 2003, which I thought was big for the genre, and it was hectic. I had to run around trying to see the bands I wanted to watch perform and there were only three stages. As soon as I got in line and got a hold of the performance times, I began to make my schedule. It worked out pretty well for me, so I can imagine if I hadn't done so it would have been more of a mess.

Now picture the 100,000 people they "expect" at one festival. Fuuuck no.

It might sound like fun to some, but the reality is that you get too much of a mix of people that it can become chaotic. The worst are the rock jocks who are simply there to get drunk and go mosh, slam, pogo or WTF they think they're doing. Then it's those who don't belong at shows who get a good spot to watch their favorite band, but end up passing out and being stomped on because they are ultimately a bunch of pussies.

Some of these things you can't control. Especially when you can normally handle the situation, but the crowd is way to packed that it begins to sway back and forth, side to side that groups of people just collapse and all hell breaks loose. And to think, this happened at a Weezer concert.

I would rather go see the bands during their own tours. You might end up paying more in the long run, but you get their real performance and not some short setlist leaving you in disappointment.

yeah, i agree. i don't think i'll be going to this year's coachella fest. i've never been before and i don't know if i want this year to be my first. i'll just go see the fiery furnaces on their tour and pray and hope that they open up for sleater-kinney's june tour. it was rumored that s-k would play at coachella. i would have gone, but now, not so much.

but yeah, yvonne, you should definitely check out the fiery furnaces if you get a chance.

Actually i was reading an article yesterday (i dont remeber where, mabye Pitchfork Media or The Desert Sun) )n which they talked about how Coachella usually attracts a pretty descent crowd. There is never been any violence (the article stated that ) adn i have never seen any, and i've never seen any of the "fratboy/fratrock" types. Mabye cause Good Charlotte's not there (thank god). Everyone is pretty friendly, respectful and well behaved, for the most part. The 100,000 is scary, but 1st i need to find out if the Polo Field even allow that many people. I really hope not. First i heard that they werent going to sell as many tickets as they did last year to prevent overcrowding, then i read on NME that they expected 100K people. (Im not going to go by what NME says becasue they posted a fake line-up that someone had created on the Coachella Msg. Board to get rumors started, and NME published the line up as official) So we'll see. If they do sell that many tickets, i am stil going and if its that much of a pain in the a** or too much of a production or hassle with that many people then i probably wont go next year depending on this year with that many people. I dont believe promoters want to sell less, i am sure they are all rich, greedy bastards. Oh well.

Well. I talked to Dani, (who works for Goldenvoice, i think. I don't want to get anybody in trouble.) But she has something to do with Coachella and promotions. She said that they are expecing 100k throughout BOTH days. Not per day! Phewww! That makes a s**t load of difference. A little more tolerable. Mabye. Just a little! I hope its not that hot like last year. The other years were fine. But then at night it gets cold.

If you missed the 2005 Coachella Music Festival, you can watch all the action for the 2 days on the main stage in just 2 minutes.
