I had one hour lunch time the other day as a substitute teacher in E.C. So I was around looking for a decent but not too picky place to eat for 1 hour is not enough to enjoy an elaborate meal such as one from an expensive restaurant. So I was driving by 5th and State and saw Tommy's Italian Food. Ok, the place doesn't look too formal to be expensive so I went and checked the menu. I needed something fast so the best bet appeared to be Lasagna, which they offered it in a variety of ways. "half" was around $4.50 and "full" around $7.50. I just decided to try "full" to go.
Around 10 minutes later I receive a white foam food-to-go container, the ones with the 3 sections. The lasagna was supposed to be "full" and I found it to be not too much of that. The amount was small, a diminute breadstick, a handful of lettuce leaves in a good but really reduced space of salad with a little cup of ranch dressing. The lasagna was good indeed, but not enough amount of it as to call it a complete meal for $7.50 considering that the place doesn't look too formal for that. Not that I am saying that the food is bad because it is not, but I should have rather been to the Pizza Hut buffet for that money. |

You might want to write your formal review at:
Calecia.com Food & Drink - Tommy's Pizza & Italian Food
http://www.calecia.com/food/index.php/vi/rst/120
As you might read, I gave them a pretty average rating. To tell you the truth, I was a little desperate for some change here in the Imperial Valley that I ended up giving them too much credit.
I've gone back a few times and each time it's been a little more disappointing. The pizza gets a little less desirable each time and more and more reminds me of Red Barron frozen pizza available at any of the supermarkets here. I've had the lasagna as well and never had the urge to reorder either.
Not to be a prick, but this place just sucks. Maybe if the owner/management was a little more open minded I might reconsider frequenting the place. I've asked the owner about the possibility of getting a little more variety with ingredients such as: spinach, pesto sauce, ricotto cheese and so on. You know, like a New York style pizza parlor probably would? Example: The Bronx in San Diego.
I felt compelled to let the guy know about The Bronx, but just gave up, especially after he tells me that is how you go out of business... by having too many ingredients. I guess the crackheads and whores like to keep their pizza basic.
Oh, it's also a major turn off when you've got the owner delivery person complaining about how they got such a small tip (in front of customers).
Unfuckingbelievable. |

Turn off? So at one point you were actually turned on by the delivery guy? Inche Joto! |

| The other day i went to Jack in the Box and i order a Southwest Chicken Fajita Pita Combo (sub'd reg. fries for reg. curly fries) and a medium coke and it was seven dlls and some change. It seems whenever i do pick up something, either prices went up and i hadn't taken notice, but it always amounts to seven dlls., so for a cooked meal unless your food was horrible i dont think its that bad. |

They definitely need to change their strategy, especially with their prices but also with their variety of selections, or people won't be attracted to that place for too long and the only thing they will sell will be sodas for the prostitutes and freaks around the block.
I don't feel like going again, the lunch I received the other day looked like a kid's meal, they should offer some more stuff and more variety as elchrist says. |

Yeah! Do what I say!
Have you tried out Basha's New York Deli where The Computer Hut used to be?
Like I said, I haven't been to NYC to eat, but I can't imagine it really being NY style. The food is OK (for sandwiches and such), but a little on the pricey side. Although I guess the price does match the amount of food they give you.
Worth a try. |
