Yeah, much like Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, and Blink 182.
Where are their props? |

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Don't insult me like that.
You seriously don't think Blink 182, Vanilla Ice, or MC Hammer changed the face of music?
How many teenagers turned punk? How many people owned, or made, a pair of Hammer pants, how many people started saying, "Word to your Mother."
If you're going to give Nirvana credit for making a bunch of kids into poser junkies, then give the other bands their props too. |

Maybe "face of music" wasn't the best phrase; the bands you mentioned made fashion statements, but had little impact on musical style.
When The Beatles came onto the music scene they changed what popular music was; people started moving away from artists like Sandra Dee and Bing Crosby. Nirvana made Heavy Metal outdated. The only other band that made such an impact in popular musical tastes (that I can think of) is NWA. |

There were numerous "grunge" bands that could've taken the role as MTV's music video victors. Nirvana was simply at the right place at the right time. If anything, Pearl Jam should've been that band.
Approximately 40 years ago, The Beatles were a completely different story. They were a sound that most of mainstream America had never experienced. But Nirvana? Their sound is very close to many other bands of the past, except with a little twist.
Here are few bands that I believe really had a major impact in the music industry within the past 50 years or so:
Elvis Presley
The Beatles
The Ramones
Run DMC
The Cure
Madonna
and most recently:
Eminem |

I agree that Pearl Jam is a much better, and more original, band than Nirvana. |

Puhlease. Eddie Vedder is a pretentious fucker and Pearl Jam's songs weren't any more original than Nirvana's. For personality, musical impact and influence on future bands, Nirvana wins hands down. You can be irreverent and political without having a stick up your ass the way Eddie Vedder has always had. Nirvana rocks. |

Great list! I would include Michael Jackson though. Even though he's become repulsive now. But back in the day, he rocked. |
