Mexico Rebel Marcos Writes Novel with Crime Writer
Source: Reuters
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican rebel Subcommander Marcos, one of the best known Latin American revolutionaries since Che Guevara, published the first chapter of a novel on Sunday that promises to be a critical commentary on contemporary Mexico.
The opening chapter of the novel, co-written with bestselling crime writer Paco Ignacio Taibo II and called Muertos Incomodos -- translated into English as Awkward Deaths -- was published in the leftist newspaper La Jornada.
The tentatively 12-chapter novel is a work in progress and is to be set in Mexico's southern Chiapas state, where Marcos's Zapatista rebels first took up arms against the government in an uprising in 1994, and Mexico City, the nation's capital.
It is the brainchild of Taibo, Marcos, now believed to be hiding in Chiapas, and Spanish writer Manuel Vazquez Montalvan, now deceased.
No word yet if Subc. Marcos plans to tour the republic to promote his new novel. |

| I heard that there's about 5 or 6 Subcomandantes, but that was just a rumor. That guy is always wearing a maskie. For the last 10 years, I've always seen EZLN as a political party, so just another way to get the word out, I guess. |

Excuse me for the double post, but it's funny how you say that. Destroyed peace in Mexico? Yes dude, Mexico's situation was so nice and peaceful until Marcos started a revolution. And no you dipshit, he did not start it. He did not come into the picture until after the Mexican military did their massacre in Chiapas (backed by the U.S. government and corporate interests, by the way) in which the military came in with assault rifles, machine guns, and tanks, and the people of Chiapas fought back with sticks and stones, literally.
Destroyed peace in Mexico. Interesting. It's funny how you can say that about someone "destroying peace" when you support a president that starts war in other countries and uses our own people, sending them back with missing limbs or in a coffin. What a fucking dumbass.
Oh, and once again: |

Mars,
All those Americans that you mentioned are Heros.
Marcos?
He is a man that created a revolution not to fix a country or free them from opression but to kill his own people, and start his own political agenda. He is only an image for the mexican government. He is like Pete Wilson for the democrats when they try associate wilson with every Republican in order to take away the Latino vote from them eventhough its not true. That is the way the mexican government uses Marcos.
Carnicerodegiles:
There is to much of a gap between Marcos and Bush. Marcos is the worst thing in Latin America and it will be impossible to compare them because they are not alike. And besides, how do you know there was corporate intrest with Marcos? |

The reason on why I brought up Bush is because you just love to spew out nonsense without backing it up and/or biting your tongue. Yes man, we know you are a fucking republican and we know republicans are against anything that promotes human rights or revolting against an oppressing higher power.
And yes, the violence in Chiapas was started due to corporate interests. For your own information (and to make you look stupid) from the Mexican revolution up until 1994 there was an amendment in the Mexican constitution which guaranteed land to anybody that decided to reside in unclaimed land. In 1994, President Salinas wanted to rewrite the amendment so that no more land was to be claimed and to take land away from these people. The reason: to expand major corporations in Mexico, many of which the US government had invested in (hence the support of the US).
What you need to do before writing a bunch of shit without backing it up is to pay more attention in your history courses at IVC. |

Out of ignorant curiousity, did the amendment ever go through? |
