The Misfits (Project 1950: Jerry Only, Dez Cadenas and Marky Ramone) are playing in Mexicali this coming Sunday, October 24th at Aragon's.
Take warning: This is not the original Misfits with Glenn Danzig, but a project band consisting of these three punk "legends."
I had a chance to see them play at 4th & B in San Diego last year and it was somewhat of a disappointment as the performance slowed down considerably after a few songs. Jerry Only is on vocals and he does an OK attempt to mimic Glenn Danzig. I actually left before the show ended.
The Misfits name brand has been completely commercialized as you will quickly notice from their merchandise booth. There are even Misfit zombie dolls available. Dez also massacres the Black Flag name with his "signature" merchandise, while Marky Ramone continues to flaunt his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors.
It will be interesting, nonetheless. Chicali punks everywhere must be salivating to see them live and you might expect a ferocious audience.

 It would not be great. I, too, have heard this so-called Misfits cover band and it sucks. Only's vocals are wretched. Glenn Danzig was the punk rock Elvis and had the most unique voice and singing style in the genre. Only needs to stop gravy training and retire. Glenn Danzig wrote all those songs everybody loves, not Only.
In case anyone was interested, Danzig is supposed to be doing his last tour this fall/winter. As part of that, he will do an hour-long set of Misfits songs. He hasn't performed Misfits songs in 20 years. What makes this even cooler is that he will have Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on stage with him playing guitar (Jerry Only's little borther).
This is just something I read. Whether its fact or not cannot be verified.  |

I searched and found the following news article.
It'll be Doyle with Danzig and it sounds like it's true about the special Misfits set. I couldn't find any dates for "Blackest of the Black" tour 2004, but tickets went on sale July 25th. It either already happened or it's sold out by now. |

Really? They're that bad? I'll take your word for it. I thought they might come close to sounding like they did with Danzig. |

I guess it was at Parque Vicente Guerrero. It said Aragon's on the Misfits Web site. |

Was that a fireworks display I witnessed across the border from the Misfits show? I could actually hear the opening band from home.

Apparently, Danzig will be playing in LA December 30, and according to his official website, tickets have not been on sale yet.
