why are there so many goddamn wal-mart supercenters coming to the valley? one in el centro, one in brawley and one in calexico. isn't a regular damn wal-mart enough? all the valley-owned stores will be gone. it's going to be the Wal-Mart Valley instead of the Imperial Valley. greedy ass wal-mart should go somewhere else. those damn stores are the size of a small town. is anyone else kinda pissed off?

Wal-Mart HATER? Based on what you are saying I assume you don’t mind paying a higher price for certain products. Wal-Mart is of great benefit to the people of Calecia since Calecia has a high unemployment and low-income rate. Lower priced products means consumers can make more, with their money. Personally I am for the Super Center’s they will create jobs, tax revenue, and lower priced products. I can buy a product for a lower price and can return it if it is defective or I don’t like without a problem. UNLIKE THE VALLEY OWNED….

The only thing valley stores need to do to compete, I believe to be an impossiblity, is have great customer service. You go into local stores thinking you will have nice workers who are helpfull, but negative, they are all bitter to be working. The worst part for the consumer is that wal-mart probably has the worst customer service of them all, but at least you'll get a cheap price for it. Why would you go to a local store to pay more and have shitty service.

there's some interesting statistics about walmart here:

http://www.ufcw.org/issues_and_actions/walmart_workers_campaign_info/facts_and_figures/index.cfm

and a well-written opinion piece(i'm not articulate enough to write my own shit) that covers some of the points Baloo brought up:
http://margaretcho.net/blog/walmart.htm

another reason we(calexico) should have gotten rid of the prospect of super wal-mart a few years ago when we had the chance. that whole prop-b thing. i must have been 16 at the time, but i remember some of the people were holding up signs that read, "HELP WAL-MART!" help wal-mart? the biggest corporation who obviously disrespects its employees? help them? goddamn ignorance.

The largest class action suit in US history has recently been given the go ahead against WalMart for sex discrimination. The allegations are pretty despicable. This case alone is enough for me to shop somewhere else. There have also been smaller cases alleging racial discrimination. They can charge less because they screw their employees over hard.

How progressive of you...
Practices like that aren't cool and no amount of macho bravado bullshit makes them cool. And for your information, most of the plaintiffs in that lawsuit were Mexican women being treated like shit by white male managers. And the females that did make manager positions were essentially punished for it. If it was your mother or your sister I don't think you'd be telling them to cry you a river.
