I'm aware that it's in beta, that's what I was commenting on. Just pointing out that the invitation system is a clever way to build up hype and spread their service like wildfire. It's brilliant.

Sure.

Google initially invited beta testers to use Gmail based on previous subscriptions to their services. After establishing their beta testers, they allowed them to invite other people to join.

I think what really hyped up this mail service is that companies like Yahoo! and Microsoft made attempts to retaliate to Google's 1 GB storage offerings. That's when the media seemed to pick up on it. Just about everyone now wanted an account.

The ridiculous part was that there people who were actually willing to pay to get invited by existing users.

Right now, you've got people pissed off at Hotmail (Microsoft) because their storage upgrade is taking for ever. Older accounts already have 250 MB, while others are still dealing with the hassle of maintaining 2 MB of space.

Anyway, it's all about Cmail.

Gmail is pretty nice when it comes to mailing lists. It will group all the messages into conversations and provide you with an easy way to read the entire discussion without having to look for the old messages.

Even when you archive the messages, it still brings back the entire discussion with all the read messages already collapsed when new mail arrives.

Pretty slick.
