This may be a first for C.com but I will actually be using this thread to help with one of my classes.

I am asking y'all to post what, if any, reading strategies were taught to you guys in high schoo to use in content reading? like did your bio teacher help you think of ways to read your text book or did they just hand you the book and tell you to answer questions.

Please, no smart ass answers, there are other threads for that on this site, and if you can't remember anything then do not post.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Mr. Ferrells, wonderful bio class. In this case he wouldn't even ask you to read the book all you had to do was write and outline of every chapter that didn't really help with anything.
He also had us copy notes from the overhead in cornel style which was supposed to be super beneficial when I went to college, but once I got to college I never used them.

I would appreciate any of your recollections thanks

This may or not be of help, but CliffsNotes now offers most of their literature notes for free online.

It's now ad supported.

I used mnemonics, but I don't know if that's your cup of tea. Or come up with a song to help you remember.

Read along silently while the teacher reads.

Same comprehension. The students learn how to pronounce by example (that is if the teacher knows how to read.)

Well it depends on the High School. See, if you're teaching at CHS then go with any strategy geared for 4th graders. Don't get too advanced and use reciprocal teaching.

Isn't this site filled with teachers?
