I go to Subway every once in a while to eat "healthy" and the clerk always asks if I'd like my Subway stamp. 90% of the time I take it, place it in my pocket and empty it out along with my change at the end of the day. I don't own a Subway card, so I don't lick it and stick it.

I used to collect these stamps and then put all eight on my free 6 inch Subway sandwich card and go to Subway for lunch. Some times I'd ask for their most expensive sandwich or ask for one I've never tried before. I figured I'd use this opportunity to go out of my norm and try something new, since it was free. Well not really, you pay for the price of a medium drink (as well as the previous overpriced 8 sandwiches).

One day I asked the Subway employee if everyone took their stamp. They said sometimes, since it's now mandatory for them to ask the customer if they'd like their stamp. Two if a 12 inch sandwich was ordered.

I asked them if it was possible for them to donate the Subway stamps to the needy and their final response was no. It was merely company policy and they have to track their stamp inventory to avoid employee abuse. Placing a stamp donation bin or can would not be possible.

So I began to collect my stamps again. I almost have enough for one free sandwich (with the purchase of a regular sized drink). The only problem is I have to look for all of them, since they're at my desk, clothing, home, car, etc. I'll start putting them in a container starting today.

At this rate, I will probably accumulate one full card per month or two. It isn't a lot, but it's something, right?

What if you and everyone else you know did the same? It might add up to 3 or 4 free sandwiches a month for a homeless person. If the entire community got involved, it could result in the homeless never being hungry again. The homeless can purchase their drink with some spare change they might be able to collect and budget for throughout the week.

If you already eat at Subway, then it doesn't cost you anything extra. I'm also not encouraging everyone to go eat at Subway either, but if it's already part of your lunch schedule, then think about participating.

Save up those Subway stamps and Calecia.com will figure out a way to collect them at a later date.

Because I plan to give my Subway stamps to the needy.

I'm not sure if this thread should be under Food & Drink. Maybe it should be under a new thread or even a whole new section named Look at the Wonderful Things Elchrist Does for the Less Fortunate or simpy Elchrist: The Philanthropist. It's just a suggestion, though.

By the way, I think I just got BANNED for this one.

Hey, I try my best...

Just quit responding to this topic and it will eventually disappear, just like all the other important ones.

Go on now with your selfish self.

This thread just reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine gives the muffin bottoms to the homeless shelter. They get pissed cause she's keeping the best part to herself and they're insulted that she's insinuating that they're not good enough for the tops.

I was once asked for money for food outside of a McD's by a guy. I said no. When I ordered, I felt guilty, and I bought him a meal. When I came out, I handed him the bag and walked away feeling like I had just done the greatest thing anyone has ever done. As I was getting into my car I look to the guy for a sign of appreciation. He was looking at me as if to say, "Who the fuck do you think you are?" I wave back, in a gesture saying that no thanks were necessary, and he throws the bag in the trash can. I flipped off the filthy beggar as I drove off.

If they don't want them, then I'll keep them. Maybe I can trade them for McDonalds Monopoly stamps.

Very funny episode, BTW.

Amp, you have no beggar etiquette. Don't you know you never order a meal for them? What would have happened if he was diabetic or even worse... a vegan!?

On my last visit to Subway, I sat outside to eat my meal. I experienced a beggar in action sporting Dada shoes, a Fubu jersey and gold necklace. Maybe the necklace was only gold plated.

He asked everyone for some change as they walked in and out of the place. He was courteous as he said "Hello" before asking. He told one person he needed two bucks to have enough for a sandwich and the guy gave him $2. He still kept begging afterwards.

I got a good laugh when a lady in a Hummer H2 pulled up and he asked how much her car cost her. She said $60K. He then asked her for change and she said no.

Subway must have forecasted losing too much revenue do the the "Subway Stamps for the Homeless" initiative. They've cancelled their Subway stamp card program.
