I was wondering i don't have any internet at home. I am currently a student at SDSU. I was told that as a student i could get free internet access through the school. But the question i have is am i better off getting some free internet provider or what?

I don't think you would be, you'd be better off using the dialup connection that SDSU offers.

SDSU should give you a straight up PPP dialup account which means they'll just hand you over a username and password, phone number(s) to log into and, maybe, some TCP/IP settings (but highly unlikely as they should just be assigned to you automatically every time you log in.) It'll work just like any "brand-name" connection you'd probably pay $15-$30 a month for.

The free providers aren't free if you consider that what you save in money, you make up for in headaches. You've gotta install their proprietary dialup software, which will slow down your connection. They track your usage for marketing purposes. They may flood you with junk mail, but will surely assault you with popup ads. Also, I don't think there are any more free providers that give unlimited Internet access anymore, more like 10-20 hours a month.

Go with the SDSU access.
