I guess Rubio's scrapped their plans to open a restaurant at the mall.
That sucks. |

This is what I was most dissapointed about. That would have been the only non-generic resturant there. |

Hello folks. My company told me of plans to open a store at this mall sometime this year. This will be our first store in California, and one of only a handful in the western states. At first, I thought "where in the hell is El Centro?" After doing a tiny bit of research, I thought "why in the hell do we want to put a store *there*?" since we usually go into larger markets.
Then I did more searching, which led me to this site. Then I learned of Mexicali. I'd never heard of it before, and would have never guessed it was as big as it is. Mapquest and the like don't like Mexico, apparently. Now I know why my company wants to be there. New mall, large market, completes coast to coast expansion.
Now, on to the beefy stuff. There is a possibility that I could be the one sent out to run this store. Problem is, I live in the South and don't know a damn thing about California, let alone this particular area. I've traveled in the west, but Southern CA is virgin territory for me. I can see that it is close to the border, so "lol Mexicans" won't help me. I'd be renting - how's the situation there? Just exactly how important is the Mexican population to the economy of this area? How often do Americans go to Mexicali for fun? Is there anything you can think of that you might need to tell someone who's new to the area?
Please excuse me if these seem to be dumbass questions, but I am a couple thousand miles away. If it helps, I can do what I can to answer questions about my company, since they will be new to the state. |

Pretty important. A large part of the reason why some of the stores in the Imperial Valley survive is because of Mexicali. Both sides have become dependent on eachother.

Pretty often. There aren't very many clubs, bars, or events that go on in the Valley. Most entertainment takes place either in Mexicali or San Diego.

Peopls stare too much here.

They have my approval, as long as they don't destroy all the local shoe stores. |

Do not be surprised if you go to any fast food joint, this applies to Calexico only, and you are asked for your order in Spanish. Also, do not be surprised if that same worker does not speak english. |

I really don't know what kind of stores are out there, but I guess you could put us somewhere between Foot Locker and Payless, with some dress shoes thrown in.

We aren't all backwards southerners While I'll admit it would take some adjusting and study, I am used to customers that do not know the English language.

Thanks for your replies, guys. They have been helpful. |
