I think we should send an email to the manager of that restaurant and get somebody fired.

I went to the B&B at the mall and knowing that they served Guinness and Bass on tap I figured they could serve a Black and Tan. I asked for one and to my suprise they they said they couldn't. Who in their right mind sells Guinness and Bass, but wont serve a Black and Tan? I sure hope they learn because I need my fix.

Guinness by itself is still awesome.

For lunch today at Italia Express, I bought a stromboli ($4.75) and a soda ($1.50) and they rang me up for an even $7.00. Tax (7.75%) should have totalled up to $0.484375 (round off to $0.49), giving me a grand total of $6.74.

$4.75 + $1.50 = $6.25 X 7.75% ($0.49) = $6.74
$4.75 + $1.50 = $6.25 X 7.75% ($0.49) != $7.00

I was ripped off by $0.26!

Big deal, huh? Well, if 100 customers ordered the same thing on that day, Italia Express makes an extra $26.00 profit.

Mucho ojo.

Only you would go through the trouble of figuring out the math for 26 cents.

Overcharge due to faulty mathematician

QUESTION: Is there some sort of special sales tax rate at the new mall? I bought lunch at Italia Express at the food court. My food total came to $6.25. I was charged $7.25. The difference was explained as "tax."

When I expressed that it seemed to be a lot of tax, I got a blank stare from the cashier. That extra dollar makes a 16 percent tax rate. — Feeling Cheated, El Centro

The only answer that first came to us is perhaps you had used a Versatel check card and the company charges a $1 for using such a card.

Then we contacted Italia Express and found out our assumption was way off and the answer we received from the company's manager made us laugh, even though his statements were a bit harsh.

First, even if you used a Versatel card to pay for your meal, you should not have been charged extra for that. The company does not charge for the use of such cards.

The manager, Joe Dervisevich, in the Valley to make sure the local restaurant is running properly (he travels around the country to the company's restaurants in his management role), told us you should not have been charged $1 more.

If you were charged extra, he said, it probably has something to do with difficulties the restaurant was having with some of its first cashiers. He said those cashiers couldn't add two plus two. In fact, he said on one day the restaurant's register was short $2,000 likely because of mistakes by staff.

The manager said the staffers who were a problem are no longer with the company and he thinks the issues have been corrected. He offered his apology to you and said he would be willing to do whatever was necessary to win back your business.

While harsh on some of his early staff, the manager said the team there now is providing good service. He also said the people of the Imperial Valley have been polite customers.

If you do decide to eat there again, let us know how it goes.

Andi puto!

Chinga tu...

Although I don't believe the manager's response. The miscalculation is not with the addition of items, but with the calculation of sales tax.

Is there a place you haven't eaten at?

Either you enjoy trying new places or never eat at home.
