| It was a great concert; it really was. Rodney was almost full. A few empty seats here and there. And the band was very gracious. I know they'll be up in San Francisco pretty soon with Neko Case. She's got some great albums. She also plays with the New Pornographers. So I suggest you check them out. Good times. |

The concert went off smoothly; with awesome performances by everyone. Over 300 people attended (not counting Calecia.com's or any of the performer's staff, nor the media.) It took me all weekend to recover from the physical and mental drain of the event; can't speak for the others, but I'm sure they fared similarly.
The only thing that sucked is that we were denied credit for the show by the local newspaper. The way the article was written, front page story even, it was almost implied that someone else put the show together. Words cannot describe how livid I am about that. It would have been nice for Calecia.com to get some credit for doing all the work, but you know how that goes. I've had many, many people come up to me already, who either knew about and/or attended the concert, and read the article, and express equal outrage and disgust. |

Worst of all is that the cause was barely mentioned in the article. Afterall, it was a benefit concert to promote border crossing death awareness. Something the band Calexico was VERY interested in. |

well, for what its worth. as a result of promoting this gig and passing out flyers, i know i personally introduced a lot of people to Calecia.com. most of them astonished that this website actually existed. i don't know whether they'll be interested in posting, but shit, as long as they visit it and benefit from it, thats a good thing. congratulations Calecia.com, you guys are fucking amazing! great fucking people.
by the way, the band calexico are supposed to be on KCRW this week to play a live set and interview. this is a station out of santa monica, and we can in fact pick it up here in the valley on 89.3. just in case you were interested.......
let the IV Press bashing begin....... |

According to the Imperial Valley Press, some people got into the show for free, including them. These people must have avoided the security guard at the door and were not stamped by our rainbow colored duck stamp.
If you were one of these people, do the right thing and donate the money you did not pay for the ticket or volunteer to help maintain the water stations in our deserts. |

First of all, congratulation to cris, ramon, javier and the rest of the crew who put out this great concert, in our beloved city. Hopefully it is not the last one...
About the IV Press thing, who cares, it's a shitty news paper owned by the IID. The show and Calecia.com was mentioned on the "OCweekly" and "Calexico Chronicle", which are more honest papers, and I'm sure there was lots more media covering the event, even 2 documentaries are being made, that I know.
BS. When are the video/photos coming up? |
