Band Calexico to play benefit concert in City of Calexico

CALEXICO, California—June 25, 2004—Calecia.com is proud to present, for the first time ever in the City of Calexico, California, the world-renowned band Calexico, performing in a benefit concert to promote border crossing death awareness.

Calexico, accompanied by Mariachi Luz de Luna, will kick-off their North American tour on Friday, July 9, 2004, at Rodney Auditorium, in the City of Calexico. Calecia.com, with the assistance of generous sponsors throughout the Imperial Valley, has been privileged with the opportunity to bring this incredibly talented band to the desert southwest to perform a benefit concert promoting border crossing death awareness, with all proceeds going to Border Angels, a non-profit organization supporting humanity.

Formed in 1996 by Joey Burns and John Convertino of Tucson, Arizona, Calexico has released 9 full length albums along with multiple EPs and singles. Calexico's music style is extremely diverse. Their folk/world music blends rock, jazz, blues, country, mariachi and more. Calexico's music has appeared in Adidas' Impossible is Nothing television commercial featuring Muhammad Ali and the band will be featured performing in Dreamwork's upcoming movie Collateral starring Tom Cruise.

Founded by Enrique Morones in 2001, Border Angels is a non-profit organization committed to stopping the unnecessary deaths of individuals traveling through the Imperial Valley desert areas and the mountain areas surrounding San Diego County, including areas located in and around the United States and Mexico border.
